It is the fuel gauge,it may not be as empty as you think,but the sending unit for the gas gauge is in the fuel tank,and it would need to be removed to replace the fuel sending unit,and it may only be available with the fuel pump assembely.
Take your car to Autozone or Oreillys and get a free scan. The cars' computer will tell you what is wrong. The autoparts store should be able to provide the part and show you where it ges.
I would suggest taking it to a reputable trans shop. Because there are selonoids inside a trans that just need to be replaced that are acting up. Make sure you take it to a reputable shop.!!!!!!!! Hope this helps, leave comment.
