I lose steering for 10-30 seconds after going through a deep puddle. The brake and battery light both come on. I am anxious to take this to a mechanic but know that they won't find anything. Did anyone successfuly fix this?
When you went through the puddle water got all over your serpentine belt causing it to slip,so that is why you lost your steering and the alternator stopped charging which is on the same circuit as the brake light sensor. So if everything is all right now do not wast your money at a shop everything will be fine:)
Geting water on belt may have to change or adjust if posible
I just went to Hyundai yesterday regarding the same problem. At first, he told me that in these cases it is usually the belt, however, it wound up that it was a frayed wire (a crank censor) that was actually causing the computer system, etc. to shut down. I haven't gone through a puddle yet and if I still have the problem, I'm going to tell them to change the belt.
Either way, I hope both our problems are solved.

A delayed thank you - I had the belt replaced but haven't gone through any large puddles to test it. Still wondering if anyone else with this problem found a sure solution ...
