Follow the E -brake cable itself back until you find what looks like a turnbuckle that will allow you to soak up the slack

make sure e-brk shoe adjuster is all the way closed. then start adjusting little by little until you can slide disc back on and have a little friction when you spin it by hand, also hope your replacing dics, old one sometime have lots of rust stopping disc from going on anyway good luck and hope this helps.

Hello , where is the handbrake adjuster on volvo v40 - 53reg

V40 cable ajuster is situated under the rear part of center console. Remove rear tray, undo the two posi screws, remove the cup holder rubber base cover to expose one more posi screw-undo.
Now you can lift the section backond off the handbrake lever.
Look under the flexi plastic cover and find a gold nut which has a sprung retainer.
You can now effect adjustment via this nut book suggests six to seven notches from off to on for ideal adjustment.

Sqeeking from the rear of my volvo xc70 awd

sounds like you got a seized handbrake cable, try removing it and soaking it with penetrating spray, it may be the shoe itself stuck,

Seized handbrake 1998 volvo xc70 awd

YOU NEED TO REMOVE THE BRAKE DRUMS AND CHECK WHERE THE PROBLEM IS, THE SHOE MAY BE SEIZED, TRY A LITTLE PENETRING OIL ON THE LINKAGE, NOT THE SHOE

Volvo s40

The handbrake adjuster is under the centre console behind the lever. If its coming too high, check that the levers at the rear brake calipers are free and moving back to their stop position - they are prone to seizing up on older or little used cars. They can usually be freed off with a bit of lube and working the lever back and forwards. If that dosn't work, unfortunately you'll need new calipers. Do not adjust the handbrake cable unless the caliper levers are at their stops as this seriously reduces handbrake efficiency!
