Shifting cable/shifting linkage adjustment

I have a 2000 ford focus and my car will not go into gear unless done from under the hood of the car. I am searching for information on how to adjust the shifting linkage. I was told it can be done. will post what to do after I figure it out.

Try loosening the nut for the cable. Shift into park from under hood. Put shifter in park and pull cable, push nut towards cable and tighten nut.

How can i adjust the gear linkeage on my 2000 ford focus it is hard to select reverse gear occasionally.5 speed manual

You may want to grease the fork sliders on the top plate. Check the nylon thickness on the forks for excessive wear. Check for excessive shaft end play between the gears and the case. Make sure the detentes on the fork sliders fully engage. The shift linkage arms have bushings so make sure there isn't excessive wear on the reverse arm .

How to adjust the shifting cable on my 2000 dodge intrepid

If its an automatic, which im sure it is. You can adjust the cable by first that the vehicle doesn't have to be running to do this. Find the transmission after raising hood. Should be easy to see. On top of it you'll see a possible L - shaped lever bolted down with what should be your shift cable. Turn the ignition on but dont start. Undo the shift cable from the linkage and by hand turn the linkage down, shifting through all the gears till in low. Reach inside the car and put shifting lever in low. Hook shift cable back to linkage and from inside put in park. That should work

2000 ford focus, manual, the stick stick flops around not engaged

There are three posibilities for this worn linkage on the gearbox the linkage under gear lever or a broken mounting on the bracket where the lever comes up through the floor as long as you can get all gears it will be exturnal linkage fault.

My 2000 ford focus wont shift. Its not the transmission because I can shift it manually a the transmission. Could this be the linkage?

I think your shifter cable broke go back to the linkage at the trans and find the bracket the cable attaches to and try to pull the cable through if you can it broke that's why I think the shifter lever is now all over the place also go to the bottom off the steering column it may have just come loose at the bracket inside the car good luck Adam you'll find it Stephen

How do you adjust ur shift linkage cable and where is it at

Under the hood on the drivers side, you will see a cable that goes back under the vehicle. it will have what looks like a big connection point in the cable. this is where the adjustment is done. Just keep in mind that the transmission shifting is also controlled by the throttle position sensor. on the side of the throttle body.

06 ford focus 5spd. no 1st, 3rd, or 5th gear.

It sound like the gear linkage isn,t set up right, you wouldn,t always be able to engage a gear unless you rocked the car.

Shift linkage problem on 2000 ford focus have to put car in park from underneath car in order for car to start car will not shift normally

Either the shift cable or the neutral safety switch is out of adjustment. Be sure no bolts or jam nuts are loose, then adjust the cable shorter to make the lever go all the way to park. Also make sure the cable brackets that hold the cable in place are secure
