2002 mazda protege5 auto battery light coming on

The battery light has been coming off and on for the last couple weeks. Sometimes after stopping, we're unable to start again without a boost. Alternator is fine (confirmed x3 at alternator shop), changed alternator belt, put in new battery and same problem. Cleaned cables around the battery and still same problem. Light comes on after going a few kms. Any ideas?

I'm guessing that you've tested the actual current output of the alternator then. I'm assuming that the output is between 13-14Volts at the battery when the car is running... If it's too low, then it's not charging your battery at all, too high, and it's frying your battery.... Another thing that can cause this is if you have a short in your electrical system.. that, however, will be difficult to narrow down...

P1250 and P1569 codes. Engine still running rough after complete tuneup. What should I check now. Any Mcguyver fixes? 2002 Mazda Protege5

1250 is the fuel pressure regulator and 1569 is variable timing control solenoid. Both will cause rough running. I would check the regulator out first.

I have a 2002 Mazda Protege5 that now has a loud, continuous metallic 'rattle' coming from the top, front of the engine. How can I locate the problem and how can I fix it?

code p0660 refers to intake manifold tuning valve , bank 1 --circuit open===causes --wiring---intake tuning valve

code p0302 refers to cylinder 2 --misfire detected ===causes --engine mechanical fault--wiring ignition /fuel system---injector---ECT/MAF sensor---ECM
form you description I suggest that you have a compression test done and check for a loose valve seat insert for no 2 cylinder
That would account for the rattle and loss of power and misfire for that cylinder

Car won't start just clicks. 2002 Mazda Protege5

The check eng light and the click are separate issue. The click is caused by a burned contact pad in the starter solenoid, the starter solenoid is mounted to the top of the starter motor on the engine. As for the other problem replace the O2 sensor, the heater is defective that preheats it when the engine is first started.

Where is the EGR valve on a mazda protege 5

I own a 2002 Mazda Protege5 with the FS2.0 Motor. The EGR Valve is located below the throttle-body. You must take off the Intake tube to get a good view of it. To replace it I think you might have to take off the throttle-body, but I'm not sure about that...(yet)

NOTE: Mazda put out a technical note stating that "if your car has sat for a long time, the egr valve could be damaged by moisture (rain) and will need to be replaced". My 2002 Protege sat for 3 weeks and the rain caused this exact issue and had to be replaced. How did I know? The engine light came on (after never coming on) and the car had an extremely rough idle. Total cost was ~$400 (ouch).

2002 mazda protege5 blows headlights weekly usaually after a rain

it sounds like the headlight housing has a leak where the lens and the housing are joined. when it rains the water is going down in to your light housing and contacting your light bulb when you are driving. you can get a tube of clear silicone and run a bead all the way around the housing. also want to make sure you are putting the seal back in place when you are replacing the light bulb. good luck.

Mazda protege5 won't start you turn the key and it won't do nothing battery is good?

check your fuses, connections to your starter motor, earth leads and realys, it there is not a problem there then you will have to go to an auto electrician to see if the starter motor is broken.

O/D off light flashing - 2002 Mazda Protege5

There is most likely nothing that they did to cause the problem.
Its just a coincidence.

I would take it back to have it checked out by them.

I have seen this problem on many Protege's, and it is usually a simple fix.
