Simple right?.. what about if it keeps popping off ? Then you'll have to purchase new rods. Best to get both rods, other rod for driver side (not very expensive). Snap them in and you're done!

How to replace wiper motor

Most wiper units are attached to the firewall. Some have removable plastic cover valances which allow access to the wiper blade rods (called a wiper transmission). Others have some slack in the wiper rods with enough play to allow for you to remove a retaining clip holding the parts to the motor. Do not have butter fingers here. Do not drop the retaining clip. Just remove the wiper mounting bolts and slide out the motor.

1996 saturn wiper motor working but wipers don't move

Hello, It sounds like your wiper motor is running but you have a wiper arm rod disconnected. Usually under a cowling and leaf screen near the wiper motor.

Drivers side windshield wiper won't move on my

Hello, There is a clip on the wiper motor which keeps the wiper rods on the motor. There is also an attachment for the other end of this rod on the backside of the wiper arm.

You need to grab the broken drivers wiper to see if the wiper rod is still attached to the wiper fixture just beneath the sheet metal where it is vented. You should be able to see the arms or rods through these slots in the sheet metal. This sheet metal is called a Cowling.

If the arm or rod moves on the drivers side when you shake the drivers wiper blade assembly, then the arm is attached underneath the Cowling and the small clip probably fell off of the other end of the arm/rod. It can be as simple as removing the wiper motor and replacing the clip.

You can not count on finding the original part. You would need to try an Autoparts store or the Dealer for the part.

If you do not want to fool with this yourself, you can go to a specialty Autoglass installer who should be able to service this and may have the part in stock. Some Autoglass shops even make Housecalls to a residence or business.

I always suggest that if you want to fix it yourself, some Auto Salvage yards let you pull the parts yourself. This is a great learning experience as you have an opportunity to break someone elses vehicle instead of your own. Then you can remove what you need and see how to do it.

I hope my solution is helpful to you.

Wiper armes stop working but can hear motor still going on

It could be either the wiper rods that have come off the motor crank, if both wipers are affected, or the clamping device has come loose on the wiper arm if only one arm is not working. You will have to get to where the motor shaft comes through the top of the firewall just below the windscreen and check the crank and the drive rods from there,

My windshield wipers will not work but i hear the motor trying to work. what does this mean? are they totally broke or is there a simple fix?

Sounds like the link rod has popped off or the wiper arm nuts need tightened. When the wipers freeze to the windshield and you start the wipers to clear the snow this will either strip out the wiper arms or pop the linkage rod off. Always pull the wipers away from the windshield before you start the wiper motor in cold weather to be sure they are not frozen to the windshield. Ok how to repair. Grab the wiper arms and see if they freely move in thier normal pattern with power off. Do they move independantly of each other ? If your lucky the nut holding the arms to the pivot just needs tightened. At the base of each arm is a black cover you have to pry up th see the nut. If not remove the wiper arms and inspect to see if they are stripped out. If they are stripped out bad enough you may have to replace them. If not then the linkage has popped off beneath the drainage grill. To see the link rods move look down thru the grill with the wiper motor running and the wiper arms off and you may see the rod flopping around. Now pry the plastic grills off, with the power off, left side first to get to the rod. Look to see if the plastic retainer in the end that fell off is still ok if so just line it up and give it a smack to pop it back on to the ball stud. If the shaft that is installed onto the motor is spinning but not moving the rod the motor must be replaced. Oopen hood and remove three bolts holding the motor to the firewall to remove it. Just reverse the process to reinstall. Thanks for asking at Fixya.com.

Turn the wipers on, you can hear the motor run but the wipers don't move. this is on a 1997 buick custom.

The wiper motor is connected to the wipers via a series of rods which are attached to each other with ball joints. It sounds like the one at the motor has come off. You just have to pop it back on. Run your wipers with the hood open so that you can see where the motor is. The rod that is hanging down looking lost will be the one you want.

Front wipers not moving after heavy snow woper blades disconnected from motor where is the moter located

the pivot point for the blades are connected to connection rods, usually under the hood or a covered section between the windshield and the engine compartment. the motor can be in that same space or on the firewall (back of the engine compartment) with the shaft through the firewall and attached to the wiper connection rods. The rods my have come lose from the pivot points or the connecting rods may have come lose from the motor shaft or the splined connection may have "stripped."

1990 dodge ram pickup wiper stopped working. Motor works and I can see it turning by looking through the slotted panel just below the windshield. There is a metal piece about 3" long connected to the motor...

First you have to remove the metal caps covering the wiper blade locking nut then remove the nut and leftthe wiper arm assembly up and rock back and forth till loose. then pull arm off as you wiggle the arm. next raise the hood and remove the 4 inside screws at the back of the hood remove the valance and the 2 plastic holding clamps then lift up. Once you have valance off look to see if the gears are stripped on the motor or the shaft if they are go to a junk yard and buy new parts. you will find the short rod and a long rod, they should be connected, if not the ball on the end of the long rod may have poped out turn on key then wiper motor and watch the parts move. You will be able to see it right away.
Hope this helps. If you need more asstance please post here and thanks for using fix-ya
