Cadillac Starting after gas fill up

Is the red security light flashing? No gas, could be fuel pump or a few other electrical issues.

I think you damaged the fuel pump by letting it run dry. It needs gas to keep it cool. But check fuel pressure. If you have low or no fuel pressure, you'll need a new pump. Figure around $800...pretty high price to pay for letting it run low on gas

When you open the gas cap, you relieve the pressure in the fuel system. Once you replace the cap, this pressure must be reestablished. All vehicles have a fuel system "prime" function that causes the fuel pump to run for about 3-5 seconds after turning the key to bring fuel pressure to the fuel rail. It sounds as though your system isn't getting enough pressure on the first prime, so you must cycle the key twice to get full pressure. It could be a sign of the fuel pump starting to fail.

Could be your cat is clogged up

maybe fuel pump starting to go its just a sugestion is there any check engine lights on how long before car starts back up or did it start back up if so how does it run once started back up did you run the car almost out of gas before you filled it up

My 2003 CTS would not start on the first, second or third try after filling the gas tank. Finally after several months of this occuring every two weeks a check engine light came on. It was the evac purge valve. Tom

the sensor is wearing out, that causes the gas not to back flow, or you need a new gas cap(pressurized). I would get a GM gas cap, because the after markets aren't that reliable for your car.

You may have a bad throttle body.

Hey Guys! Had the same annoying problem. Cadillac dealer could find nothing wrong with it. Gave me a new battery. Took it to PepBoys and it died for them and immediately they found that it was the Crank Positon Sensor!! Part was $70 + labor. GOOD as NEW!!!!

My 2004 CTS started doing the same thing last week (October 24) Took it to the dealer the PCM was shot. It was covered under the factory warranty (130 000km if I remember right) works great now.
