Crank position sensor location

I have a 2000 chevy silvarado 1500 4x4. witha 5.3L SFI. My truck begin to stall out every time I stop at a traffic light or stop sign. It would sputter like it needs air or fuel. There would be very shallow exhaust discharges coming out of the tailpipe before it shuts off. i'd turn the key until it would start up again. I took it to an auto parts store to have them use the portable diagnostic device to check the problem. I was told to trouble shoot the problem and replace the crankshaft position sensor and if the problem still persists to replace the oxygen sensors. I'm not very mechanically inclined. Is it possible for me to replace on my own or does it have to be done by a professional. If I can do it on my own, I would like an illlistration on where it would be located on the truck. Thanx for your time.

I had this same problem with mt 03 Chevy silverado. I replaced crankshaft position sensor located in the roter cap on top of the distributer. However, after spending the 80$ on the sensor the service engine light remained on and the dianostic computer still indicated positioning sensor. Turns out my distributer was bad meaning basically the sensor could not send proper reading to the computer due to faulty distributer. Finding a distributer in stock was also an issue . I ended up going to junkyard removing one from 1999 model 5.3 installed it in mine along with previously purchased new sensors ,the check engine lights went off and I never had any more problems. Available for ?'s concerning installation

Engine only stalls when in any gear also when floored engine cuts out at 3000+ rpms

it sounds like a crank sensor if the vehicle stalls in any gear or when cold its most likely a crank sensor. located near the bottom of the engine. there almost always behind the balancer pully for the crank shaft

Van runs good then stalls out. then hard to start. If i let it sit for 5 minutes it starts again no problem. Then stalls again shortly there after.

This sounds like a failing camshaft position sensor and weak crank shaft sensor .When crank shaft sensor gets weak it will stop functioning. When crank shaft sensor stops working then ECM will not control fuel system and the fuel will stop flowing. And this can cause the problem. When crank shaft sensor gets heated it will stop working, but when the car shuts off, the sensor gets cold and works for few minutes and sensor again gets hot and it stalls. ---------- Get the crank shaft sensor tested on your Chevrolet venture. ---------- There are many other possibilities for this stalling problem, but crank shaft problem is indicating in your case. I have an 2000 Oldsmobile intrigue and i need to replace the camshaft position sensor, where is it located and how hard is it to replace it?

Well if it's the 3.5 SFI engine, it's on the timing chain cover, toward the top of the engine, held in by one 10mm bolt. If you have the 3.8L it's built into the ignition module. The crank sensor is a pain in the **** on the 3.8. That's located above the oilpan, toward the rear of the car, in between the transaxle & engine, also held in by one 10mm bolt. Check out autozone's website for more info.

How do you check and change a camshaft position

The camshaft sensor wouldn't explain the clattering noise. But a timing chain would explain both. Clattering from a loose chain and the camshaft sensor code from when the chain broke and the camshafts stopped turning.

2000 silvarado 5.3 vortech runs good for awhile after it gets hot it shuts off and wont crank until it cools off

do you mean wont crank over and start till it cools off? if thats the case it sounds like you got a bad crankshaft position sensor,,thge sensor is fine when its cold and warm but when it gets hot it goes open and the cars computer cant see the rpm and shuts the engine off,and then when it cools off the sensor works again and the car starts and is ok till it gets hot again,if thats the case thats what it is,,,hope this helps,,,about $100 for the part

89 Chevy Corsica keeps stalling while driving

. Have it checked for a trouble code. It seems like a sensor problem. ( Idle position , crankshaft position, camshaft position sensors could be bad. Also the EGR valve could be bad. with a caode you can narrow it down a bit.

Stalling

I have a 2000 Sonata V6 with the same issue (low speed intermittent stalling). Finally found a Hyundai dealer that knew about the issue and replaced the CRANK SENSOR. This has dramatically reduced the stalling but it still occurs very rarely. I think the engine idle speed of my car is abnormally low and this may be a secondary issue not completely related.
