It might be a failing power steering rack as well...classic symptoms are very stiff when first starting vehicle or at a stoplight, then loosens up as rpms increase.

Try and put some oiling in the shaftand align the wheels there may be some problem in the wheel alignment like one tyre goes this way and the other goes the opposite.

does it come back on one side and not the other..if so..and fluid is up..definitely the rack...provided it drives straight otherwise (no damage to steering linkage)

SOURCE: kia sedona steering wheel binds

yes look there and also inspect your track bar, tierod ends, pitman arm ball joint. Have someone turn your steering wheel while you look. the bind or looseness should be evedent. Its a big sysytem to cover.

SOURCE: i have noticed that at times my steering on my kia

Some modern cars have an electrically driven pump to supply high pressure oil to operate the power steering. However, most cars have an oil pump for the steering which is turned by a belt from the crankshaft pulley. If the belt is loose or slipping, heavy steering will be the result, especially noticable at low speeds. Check belt for tightness, and check oil level is not low, possibly due to a leak?

2004 Kia sedona replaced power steering pump and belt even changed the rack but still hard to turn.gets hard then normal and back and forth . as you are turning . help.

Lower ball joints and strut bearings. But these can cause a stiff turn. Nothing like when you loose your power steering. You could have bought a bad rack. Been there. I started rebuilding all mine.

Sometimes its hard to turn van

First I'd check your power steering fluid. However it's common for the rack and pinion to go bad as the vehicle ages, other than that it could also be you're power steering pump. You will have to have a mechanic take a look at it to be sure.

The steering on my 2002 kia sedona is very stiff and keeps getting worse

This is likely due to a failing power steering pump. Check your level first and add power steering fluid as necessary. If it gets better, you have a leak and the leak needs to be found. This is a saftey item. The black resevoir will say "power steering fluid" on a black cap on the passenger side (right) of the vehicle. Let me know what you find and I will be happy to advise and walk you through this.

2003 kia sedona

I had the same thing (hard to turn, especially in cold temps, wouldn't return to straight.....). Since the power steering fluid was full, I decided it had to be "gunk" in the fluid, so I took my '03 Kia Sedona in to have the power steering fluid flushed & filled (over $100 I think!).

No better. So I took it to another mechanic and he said that the "U-Bolt" had frozen up. He changed it (part was $117 and labor was 2 hours, for a total cost of $350ish) and it's good as new now!
