You can purchase the lower ball join on ebay for around $70. The piece will simply "press in" just as any ball joint replacement would. Find a mechanic willing to do the work for you if you bring him the parts. Just go to ebay and search 2002 lincoln ls lower ball joint. It's a fairly small piece, but you'll have to have it installed by a professional. I just replaced mine...

Good luck!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it looks like you will have to replace the entire side knuckle and ball joint which costs almost $400 at AutoZone. You might be able to find it cheaper online at autopartswarehouse.com. Again sorry for the bad news. Please let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks for using FixYa!

What does it mean replace upper and lower ball joints tie rods 2000 lincoln ls

they are front suspension pieces, and yes it is costly, but its not just the parts, there's labor also, and another mechanics opinion would be good.

Are the ball joints on a 2002 lincoln ls pressed in.....can i remove them myself and replace with out taking it to a machine shop or mechanic?

LOWER BALL JOINT-only

Lincoln LS 2002-2005 K50085

Remove Steering Knuckle from vehicle
Remove Wheel Hub Bearing Assy from Knuckle
R&R Ball Joint

You can do yourself,BUT may need to
have the joint pressed out and back in,
IF you can not borrow the tools or rent

I would take the knuckle to an auto parts
store that could do it for you

I would not pay someone to pull the knuckle

Do both sides

Also flush Power Steering,Drain Trans 2 or 3 times etc,
while your involved.

I have a squeeking noise in the front on both sides i was told it was the controll arms needign to be replaced do we need to do the ball joints as well or do they come with both when replacing

you can either buy bottom suspension arms with the ball koint atached or just replace the ball joints.

If the suspension arms are shot, then you should be able to feel this when driving over cats eyes in the road. when the wheels contact the cats eyes they wonder, the steering wil feel like its going both ways, not tight, kinda lose?

Ball joints dont squeek they knock! most times its just as cheap to get ball joints and suspension arms/control arms as one. some things dont translate that good from UK to Us the parts have different names here, but thats the same part I mean. When you remove ball joints and in most cases you have to when replacing the arms, they get damaged and rarely last long after being put back in place, you may aswell pay now for one lot of labour than pay twice.

Hope this helps

Front end squeeking

It's normally ball joints that make the squeaking noise. You can put grease in them with a needle. Then take silicone and put over the needle hole. You can go to Napa and get an alimite needle and put grease into the rubber boots on the upper and lower ball joints. Hope this helps. Phil
