This is a diesel. If you really want to "play" I recommend you google for a Service or Repair manual for your engine. Otherwise

use a volt meter to work out which light is connected to which pin on Ford Ranger trailer plug . Hopefully it corresponds to standard trailer wiring diagrams. Test each wire could also use a light bulb with two wires soldered to it or a 12v dc probe.

Have a local shop or auto parts store read the fault codes, it sounds as if you may have an o2 sensor that is out of range.

look under the dash to the left of the steering wheel
you ll se a small panel maybe 3"x3" open it up its right there
all odb2 connection can be found in this spot
made standard for all vehicles

This was not standard on 84 Ford Rangers, My online history search does not show ABS on Rangers until the 90's, when it was not even standard but an option. Hope this helps.
