Can you tell me what the error code means and what i may need to do to fix it? I cleared the error code but it comes back after a short time driving so it is a true active code.
SOURCE: Engine light on Diagnostic code is P0601
it is an internal problem in the pcm....if the car is under 8years old and 80000 miles take it to the dealer for free replacement under a fed emissions standard....if over you will have to pay...it could eventually leave you stranded
SOURCE: Lincoln LS 2003
my etc light came on and i took to the lincoln dealer it was my fuel system and it had to be replaced for the tune of 800 dollars. after that it ran fine for about a month then i hit a hump then it went into etc mode again. i then took it back to lincoln they did not see a code or that it even went into etc mode because i cut the car off and turned it back on it ran fine but once you cut it off it resets itself it did this about 10 more times and never came back on again knock on woods no problems but it started missing and the check engine light came on it was a misfire in cylinder 4 and it replaced the spark plug myself and it has ran find ever since. I was told anytime the etc light comes on it due to fuel or transmission

SOURCE: I want to know the meaning of error code 0077.
The error concerns the intake valve timing control solenoid (VTC). If you have the 16v transverse engine the solenoid is located on the left of the engine at the back of the cylinder head: look at the four injectors at the rear of the cylinder head and then imagine a fifth one at the left and this is the position of the VTC. If has a electrical connector to the top of it and an oil pipe connection to its side. This device is used to adjust the valve timing through oil pressure action on the cam assembly. A high reading (error code p0077) indicates that the 'ground' wire is either disconnected or broken to the VTC. Disconnect the electrical connector and ensure the the the plug pins and socket are free of oily grime or corrosion that might interfere with electrical conduction. Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery before doing such work. When everything is clean reconnect everything, clear the code and test.
