I have a 2001 VW jetta 1.T Wolfsburg edition with 116,000 miles. It has been a great car. I just has the oil & fuel filter changed 4,000 miles ago. Aty that time the drain pug for the oil ?was eas replaced as there was a slight leak. But, suddenly I could not steer my car without difficulty and found I had to add power steering fluid all the time. Today, I took my car to a shop who looked at my car and said my power steering hoses and "oil" hoses were corroded and I was losing oild and transmission fluid. Hoses to both would have to be totallly repalced (long hoses which wrapped up around the engine. I don't want to take my car to a VW dealer . but to a reputable VW repair shop. How much is something like this going to cost me.......????? I am in a rea panic. Your estimate would be appreciated. Thanks

There is a common fault with the cam belt driven waterpump on VAG engines as they use a plastic water-drive. The water-drive on the pump shaft breaks up or free and no longer circulates the water. Replace water pump.
It sounds like either the mixture is bad or you need a new 02 sensor. If you have never replaced the o2 sensor I would get that done anyway. Next I would get a general tune up and have your throttle body cleaned.
Thanks for choosing FixYa. You may have an issue with your motor mounts or the suspension on your Jimmy, thus causing the engine to rattle. If it is only doing this during acceleration, it could be a few different things. Since you have 116,000 miles, you are in need of a tune up, if you haven't already. You may need to change your fuel filter or injectors. If the engine is not getting enough gas to the engine, it can cause the engine to miss, causing noises. You will need to check the fuel pressure to determine that though. As far as the tune up, you may need new spark plugs/coils, and wires. There may be internal engine damage but I think it is something simple. If your check engine light is on, you could take it to Autozone and have it scanned. They do it for free and they can tell you why the light is on. This is the best path because you are not guessing what it is. If no light is on, and you haven't changed any of these parts, I would start there. If you have any other questions, just let me know. Thanks for using FixYa and have a great day.
uses a cable from the gearbox to the speedo head ,just remove the speedo head and drive a bit and see if cable turns or jack up a front wheel ,same difference ,think you will just need a new cable ,easy job to change
On the VW Jetta MkV, the cabin filter is underneath the glove box. Access is gained by removing two plastic screws, gently pulling down a piece of foam insulation, and releasing a single clip to detach the filter. It (and some debris from it) fall easily onto the floor mat below. Insert the new cabin filter, replace the insulation, re-screw the screws, and within 3 minutes, you're back in business with fresh air and clean hands besides!
