The ASD relay is controlled by the PCM (computer). The PCM will shut the ASD relay off if it doesn't see a signal from the crankshaft position sensor. Check that sensor and the wiring from the sensor to the PCM.

SOURCE: 1991 dodge ram 150 asd relay location

There are 4 relays mounted on Drivers side fender under hood. Near hood hinge area. Counting from the front it should be the second relay. They are not always installed in the correct order. It should also be the smaller relay in size.

SOURCE: 1997 dodge ram won't start. My fuel pump does not

First check any ignition/fuel related fuses. Check to make sure you have 12 volts coming into the pump and coil. If nothing to the fuel pump replace the fuel pump relay - if you do have power to the fuel pump then replace the pump. If nothing is coming to the coil it is either an ignition relay or a wiring issue. If you have 12 volts to the coil but no spark then replace the coil.
Also the fuel pump/relay would not kill the coil.

97 dodge ram stoped getting fuel want start

Check the fuel filter, and check for electrical power to the fuel pump. The fuel pressure regulator may be bad, but usually those fail by allowing full flow all the time, which leads to flooding on start, and a strong odor of raw fuel in the exhaust at low RPM.

Note: most modern vehicles (after 1982) are fuel-injected and have electric fuel pumps. They don't have carburetors; they have throttle bodies, which are somewhat like the bottom half of a carburetor.

Where is the asd relay on a 1998 dodge ram 1500

won't start means what,
will not crank./?if silent is the starter relay not clicking (now)
or cranks fast and will not start or does for 3 seconds and stalls?

in the fuse relay box , mostly in the engine bay
lost the operators guide? out of glove box.
will not crank at all (silent)
or cranks fast but will not start
or starts and stalls fast or slow. ????
will not run and stay running
yes engines can do that ,.

The ASD is the controlled by the PCM.
if the PCM sees danger it drops the relay
one danger is the PCM sees spark bad. and cuts fuel dead by dropping the ASD., dead on PURPOSE
for sure prevents FUEL fire, CRASH AND BURN as seen on TV
USA car, not told
USA A scan tool so it can tell you what is wrong in 1 minute flat.
buy one, rent or barrow one.?
step 1 is check all fuses. then scan it.
My first ASD was in my 88 jeep.
they could call it the ESD, emergency shut down relay or panic relay.
PCM logic controls it ONLY IT. !!!!!
NO anti-theft option on car or its LAMP angry.
right, ?
ASD causes of what?
11 pages on ASD
fuse 6 or 9 blown. bingo. ASD dead as a door nail. JB and Power center.
ASD dead injector power will be DEAD fully
ASD DEAD , ALL SPARK COILS HAVE NO POWER NOW

the asd coil pin low side is grounded (a transistor)
below see the PCM pin that does that.
and as I told you the PCM will kill the ASD on purpose for
at least 2 reasons (IMMO not happy) or senses spark dead
or he pre_cursors of spark dead, CMP or CKP (Or out of sync)
or the spark coil primaries dead.
but you failed to use a scan tool and work blind.

asd-undefined-undefined-0.jpg to use the scan tool do this
  1. connect to OBD2 port 16pin at knees.
  2. tool on.
  3. key on, crank until it stalls. crank for 10 seconds.
  4. release the key do not turn it off
  5. let the scan too scan add see P03xx errors. DTC.
  6. now key off. only NOW.

1999 dodge ram v8 1500 my dog snagged my 02 sensor wires now the truck wont start no fire can any of those wires cause a crank but not start and fuel but no fire? Help

The electrical power for the O2 sensors heaters comes from the automatic shutdown relay (ASD). The ASD also provides power (not control) for the coil and for the injectors. The coil and injectors are controlled by the PCM.

So if the wires for the O2 sensor heater was damaged and shorted, it may have blown the fuse(s) for the ASD, and thus you would have no power to the coil or injectors. The wire for the O2 sensor heater would be colored orange with a dark green tracer. Make sure this wire is not grounded.

The fuses to check in the power distribution center under the hood are fuse 2, a 20A fuse, and fuse 11, a 30A fuse.

What is ASD RELAY

The power supplied to the fuel pump, ignition coil, fuel injectors, and parts of the power module is controlled by the logic module through the Automatic Shutdown Relay (ASD); the idea is to shut off fuel pressure and the ignition systems when the key is turned off to prevent fires, dieseling, and other problems.

The ASD relay is closed (allowing power to flow through it) when the ignition is first turned on. If the signal from the ignition reference is lost while the engine is running, or if the turbo boost pressure reaches and exceeds the over boost cut-off point, the logic module cuts power to the ASD, which in turn removes power from the fuel pump, ignition coil, injectors and those parts of the power module. This causes the engine to shut down.

Failure of the automatic shutdown relay is often shown as inexplicable stalling or refusal to start.

My 1999 dodge ram will start and idel until i hit the gas and let off then it dies. it gives me a p1389 code

I would start with the auto shutdown (asd) relay it is located in the power distribution box it may have corrosion or pcm could be bad it needs to be tested it connects the fuel injectors, o2 sensor and ignition coil if the pcm dont detect a 12 volt from the asd relay it will shut off.

1995 Ram 1500. Just died? No votage to coil, no spark?

The power supplied to the fuel pump, ignition coil, fuel injectors and parts of the power module is controlled by the logic module through the Automatic Shutdown Relay (ASD):
The ASD relay is closed (allowing power to flow through it) when the ignition is first turned on. If the signal from the ignition reference is lost while the engine is running, the logic module cuts power to the ASD, which in turn removes power from the fuel pump, ignition coil, injectors and those parts of the power module.  This causes the engine to shut down.

Failure of the automatic shutdown relay is often shown as inexplicable stalling or refusal to start. The ASD can be triggered by a broken wire or short in another place, e.g. the fuel pump.  Hope this helps, and did you try to retrieve any DTC codes?? Be glad to help friend.
