No, it should only turn on when the temperature switch tells it to. On a hot day you may hear it running even after shutting off the engine. The fan is set up so that when you are moving at enough speed the fan shuts off to save energy, when you slow down or stop the fan should come on to maintain airflow. If you check it at this point yes it should be running. When you start it cold the fan will not turn on for maybe 10 or more seconds when the engine starts to warm up. Hope this helps.

Things to be concered about; 1.) the fan never seems to turn on. This will cause your engine to overheat when you stop.
2.) Your heat is not working. The heat going away can be a sign that you antifreeze is low and that you are about to overheat.

Nissan sentra 1995 radiator fan not going

There is probably a bad wire to the fan or a fuse has blown. use test light and probe wires with key on and see if power, BE CAREFUL FAN CAN COME ON WHEN KEY IS IN ON POSITON. Is car over heating? it usually has to get really hot for the fan to work. try letting car run while in park and watch for fan to activate. Good Luck

2003 nissan sentra gxe-car won't start at times it rolls over but won't fire up had all kinds of diagnostic tests run and can't find anything wrong-plus just replaced thermostat, spark plugs and i keep...

It you're losing coolant and it overheats, that's a sign of a bad head gasket. Get that checked before you spend any more time or money on anything else

1996 nissan sentra automatic...... engine makes a winding sound wile running ..? someone told me it mite be the power steering pump???? is that true ??? it happend after driveing throw high water...

If u drove in some water, all ur electrical components are wet and all the moving parts have lost the LUBRiCATiON! Check the ALTERNATOR if the sounds coming from that area u could just hear it while ur engine is running, check also the radiator fan turn on the engine and let it run till the radiator FAN starts up! The possible one is the FAN MOTOR, i have repaired such incident to wut happened to ur car! Hope that helps u! Taah!

When should the radiator fans be running? They only seem to run when I put the A/C on. Should they run at other times? I have a Nissan Sentra 2002 GXE.

One fan should be on once the coolant temp hits a preset number, I believe it may be 205 for teh Sentra. The second fan kicks in once the AC is on.

I need to change out the thermostat on 1997 Nissan Sentra.

The thermostat is located near the back left of the engine if you are looking in with your hood open. It is inconveniently located next to several other hoses and wires. Your best bet is a racheting screwdriver with a 10mm socket. It is accessible from the top side. If you replace the thermostat and you experience over heating, it is most likely just air trapped in the housing. Run your car and warm it up, let it cool down, open radiator cap and add coolant. Repeat a few times and that should purge the air.
