Remove radio and unplug antenna coax from radio - insert a 5 ft. length of wire into antenna input opening and with ignition on and engine off - turn radio on - you should pickup AM stations - if so - replace antenna. https://www.6ya.com/callphilipforhelp
SOURCE: radio code
I've had a BMW and now a Saab 900, a mechanic told me pull it out the number is on a paper sticker on the back, sure enough there it was. I guess if you're paranoid you could pull it out and tear the sticker off, the a thief will still pull it out, (if they were bright they would be doing something else) I wrote the number down in case of battery drain or change. Hope you are as lucky.

whenever the battery is removed (or car experiences any loss of power) you must type in security code for radio (this is the case with BMWs and Volvos as well). Go to any saab dealership and they can remove the radio and get your radio's 4 digit code, they all have one. Yes, I have done this before ` they didn't charge me and I was in and out in ten minutes.

Sounds like similar problem I had on my older 93 - one side main beam and brake light not working. Turned out to be a problem with the filament testing relay. Got it resoldered and now ok.
