Don't know where you see R-1 , ford use's F-1 80 amp fuse under hood fuse box . Fuse F-4 20 amp located in the under hood fuse box supply's battery voltage to the ignition coil . The crankshaft position sensor is what triggers the coil's . The crankshaft position sensor receives is power (voltage) from the PCM - engine computer . Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop.

98 mercury mystique oroblems

Two different problems. Check the linkage between the ignition switch and the transmission interlock. Also check for a brake-light interlock - if the brake lights don't light when you press the brake pedal, the brake light switch may be the cause of that problem.

As to the fan... are we talking about the heater/AC fan or the radiator cooling fan? Either may be as simple as a blown fuse - check the fuseblock under the hood.

Battery is drained by an internal short even with the key turned off on a 98 Mercury Mystique. No fuses are blown. With the battery fully charged it takes about 30 hours to drain the battery. Can a small...

Yes, it is very possible that a small internal short in the starter or alternator can cause this. Sometimes the starter wires can lightly touch and cause it to lose a charge. There are a number of things that can short and cause a battery to die over an extended period time. You should probably consult a specialist because it can be difficult to track down.

NO OVERDRIVE

I had a similar problem with my 98 mystique when i bought it used. I had no overdrive and was lucky to find a honest transmission shop that found the problem. In my case the overdrive was unplugged. They plugged it back in,cleared the computer and changed my tranny fluid and i was good to go. You should be revving about 2400rpm at 65mph. The other thing you can check is to make sure that the wires that go from the overdrive button are not broken off or coroded.
