Check for correct ATF fluid in "N" with engine running.....The 1999 is due for Trans. Filter service immediately......This service is supposed to be done every 80,000 miles......It has probably never been done.....If the fluid is brown and smells burnt.....The service immediately may save the Trans......Do not Delay........

SOURCE: transmissiom slips out of gear

I take it this is a manual transmission. Drain some of the oil out of the bottom of the transmission, and look at it to see if there are any pieces of metal in it. The drain plug should have a magnet. This should be all under warranty.

SOURCE: 1999 jeep grand cherokee transmission

This is called limp mode chrysler did this to protect the transmission without leaving the owner stranded by the road,a few things will cause this mainly putting the wrong fluid in the transmission, they use only atf+4,or the govenor pressure sensor is acting up which should cause a check engine light to come on,or the transmission just needs a fluid and filter change, should be done every 2yrs or 36k miles, due the fluid and filter change about 40.00 but if you have the wrong fluid then the whole system needs to be flushed and refilled-transmission-torque convertor, radiator and cooler if equipped and all lines.

The most common source of that problem is a sticking idle control motor. As a first step, purchase a new gasket and/or O-ring for the idle control motor. Remove the motor and clean it out using aerosol carburetor cleaner. If the idle control motor was sticking, that should cure it. It the fix only lasts temporarily, you need to replace the idle control motor. This is a common problem with vehicles with over 80,000 miles on them.

My 1999 dodge durango shuts off while driving. If I turn the heater on it starts rite up again.

check your ground wire from battery to frame. if that's ok then you have a wire that is grounding pout on the ignition. chase the ignition wires from the key at column and you will find one that is probable the isolation is worn off and is grounding out.

Possible PCM/ECM problem

Unfortunately that's not the case. Your battery was obviously strong enough to start the truck , and once started, the charging system increases system voltage to its operating range of 12.5v - 13.8v. Your battery may have only failed its AMP capacity and needed to be changed for that reason only. What is most common on your vehicle is when the battery goes dead or has been removed ,the ECM loses its learned memory and starts fresh again when the battery is hooked up again. Your start and stall, and / or stall in reverse is a result of the "minimum air rate adjustment" needing readjustment to compensate for age and wear. The dealer changed your battery but also did the "min. air rate" at the same time because if they didn't , you would still have your initial complaint of stalling in reverse.

Sounds like seals in the transmission. Add a transmission seal conditioner. this might help you. If you can find Tranx use this, it works great.

1999 Dodge Durango Transmission???

There is two things that can be tested: If it is an automatic tranny
The modulator valve
and the torque converter lock up switch/relay. If they check out ok, then further checking needs to be done, in which case, I'm sorry to say, the tranny might need an over haul.
There is other possibilities
the torque converter itself, A valve could be stuck in the valve body, without testing it's hard to say for sure.

Durango cuts off while driving

hi, sounds to me that either the fuel pump is going out or the fuel pump relay is acting up. the cheapest way to check the relay first by simply swaping the relay with another relay in the power distribution box under the hood (swap it with the A/C relay)
