If you normally have to push the brakes to put it,in gear, it may be a loose or bad switch by the brake pedal, or near the gear **** selector, or even inside the tranny.

relays located under hood in the fuse box near battery lid/cover should give a list , it could also be the switch , a auto electrician would be able to solve this issue in no time at all , wiring problems are usually best seen to by a professional
Sounds like you have a small amount of coolant getting into the combustion chamber/s. This could be a crack in the head or a blown gasket. You should have a mechanic look at it.
