Unlikely a defective fuse I would think - speedo is likely computer driven and as the trouble started with the repair shop I suggest you take the car back to them and complain; along with resetting the oil mileage I expect they managed to upset the speedo. Routine work such as oil changes are often performed by unskilled labour in many repair shops.

SOURCE: 1988 Dodge D150 Erratic Speedometer

Unscrew the speedometer cable from the back of the gauge and from the transmission, take the cable out of the sheath, clean it off with carb or brake cleaner, oil it and put it back in. If that doesn't do it, replace cable assembly. If that doesn't do it, pull the speedometer gear out of the transmission and check for wear. Replace if needed.

SOURCE: Speedometer not working

There was not a recall, but there was a class action settlement where GM agreed to extend the warranty on certain vehicles for this problem. Check www.gmspeedometerrecall.com to see if you qualify.

Replaced input and output speed sensors for erratic speedometer. Now the speedometer remains at 0. Anyone have a suggestion on what else could be wrong?

input and out put speed sensors tell the TCM and the ECM the difference between engine rpms and transmission input roms so that the correct gear ratio can be selected
A speedo sensor reads the out put shaft (drive line ) shaft and refers to road speed for speed and odometer readings and to calculate the fuel consumption rate
it is possible that you have replaced the wrong sensor
Talk with an accredited transmission specialist shop and have the problem diagnosed

Broken Speedometer?

You are correct in thinking if the speed sensor fails the check engine light should be on, and you should experience problems with the transmission.
It sounds like just the speedo has failed.

Speeedometer cable location, cable seems to be loose?

Your vehicle's speedometer doesn't have a cable that drives it, the speedometer is all electronic and uses information from a speed sensor to operate a servo motor in order to move the speedometer needle. If your speedometer is erratic or sticks at one speed then you may have a bad servo motor in the dash unit. The instrument clusters are repairable should this be the problem. Good luck and hope this helps!

1999 cadillac deville speedometer is not working. All other gauges are working.

Most likely your Instrument Cluster contains Electronic "Stepper Motors" on all Needle Indicators. If this is the case, you should consult the Factory Website to detrermine if this is the case. I have replaced many in my 2004 Chevrolet Silverado which has 6 Stepper Motors. These typically exhibit erratic indications prior to total failure. The first to go was the Speedometer followed by Oil Pressure and eventually Temperature, Voltmeter and Tachometer. Obviously your vehicle is no longer covered under warranty. I strongly suggest that you find a Speedometer repair facility and have it checked professionally.

1998 Honda Civic speedometer nervous on the red light

?? Does it move on the road ? You could have a worn out CV joint that allows the transmission to free-wheel. If that is the case, replace immediatly, or the transmission differential will fail.
