SOURCE: EPS and Check engine light on 2004 Volkswagen Passat Turbo

I note that you posted your question 14 Feb 09, so happy belated Valentine's Day! Anyway, I own a 2004 VW Passat 1.8 and am currently facing the same problem (EPC light and check engine light on) and subsequently, I coded it out, which was P0322. I took my other vehicle (more reliable) into the VW dealership in Olympia Washington. I was going to replace the EPC sensor, which typically handles what is sent to the car's brain, telling it how much gas it needs to run. However, the technicians at the dealership told me to code it out before investing any money without knowing exactly what should be replaced.

I took the code and determined the "crank sensor" was defective. If you call around, you should be quoted anywhere between $48 and $90 respectfully. If your VW was lurching like it was missing for a split second at a usual speed, or died at stops, then I would say you were experiencing the same problem I was having. Hopefully, this will fix your problem? The part is pretty inexpensive, but I think what VW charges to replace the sensor, is highway robbery. Anyone in your family mechanically inclined? Good luck! Have a 2006 pontiac torrent no eps have power and ground fuse is not blown

eps ???? spell it out electric power steering (EPS) system ? The system uses the body control module (BCM), power steering control module (PSCM), torque sensor, discrete battery voltage supply circuit, EPS motor, serial data bus, and the instrument panel cluster (IPC) message center to perform the system functions. The PSCM, torque sensor, nor the EPS motor are serviced separately from each other or from the steering column. Ant EPS components diagnosed to be malfunctioning requires replacement of the steering column assembly, also known as the EPS assembly.
The scan tool won't communicate with what ? The power steering control module , BCM or PCM/ECM .

Eps light is on

First thing to eliminate is a weak battery. Have it checked because if the battery is failing to hold charge or is down on power it will trigger the EPS light on your Swift. ( Many vehicle batteries will only last 3-4 years before giving trouble). If in doubt replace the battery with a new one.
Otherwise, if the light remains on, you will need to have the vehicle scanned to see what fault codes the engine's computer is generating and take it from there. With the EPS warning displayed, there will be fault codes generated.

I have swift vxi 2010 model . its steering has become heavy and speedometer gone dead. EPS light is on wat can be the problem

check all fuse in both fuse boxes.
power sensor?
electronic power steering failure.
you can:
1: get it fixed. (any ASE shop would be happy to help.)
2: read the FSM and learn the tests to find the cause.
3: and scan the PCM to see what EPS failures are happening,
and post those.
or look them up in the FSM to see the tests.

Eps light coming on

1. disconnect the battery both terminals.
2.Look for EPS control module on front passanger deck below dashboard, disconnect the cable connector
3, spray both EPS and cable connector with contact cleaner aerosol.immediately plug in back.
4. Right above EPS module there are Air Con piping make sure the condensate water do not dripped onto EPS module by covering it with plastic sheet.
5. Spray all cables to battery terminal with contact cleaner and connect it back.
6. Start your engine .
In case it still dont work ,you have to look further into EPS motor.
Hope it will solve your problem at least it work for me.

My eps light is on my in my 2008 Elantra. And my check engine light came on. Now my car wont change gears properly.

The "EPS" stands for Electronic Power Steering. There are a couple Technical Service Bulletins related to the EPS system published by Hyundai. The only way to find out if any of these bullitins apply to your problem, you must FIRST scan your onboard computer network to gather the fault codes that set when the system turned the light on. Then again, there may also be a problem that is not addressed by ANY of the bulletins.....Proper diagnosis required.

The same thing applies for your Check Engine light. There are currently over 600 possible reasons why the check engine light could be coming on in that vehicle. Many of these possible faults can cause your engine and transmission to go into "reduced power" or "limp-in" mode and cause the symptoms you are describing. The ONLY way you are going to find out which possible reason is causing the light to come on is with a computer network scan....Unless you really want to work your way through over 600 "GUESSES".

When driving the EPS light on the dash board come on and the sterring become stiff. when i turn off the ignition and start the engine again the EPS light come on and off normally and the every thing return...

EPS stands for Electric Power Steering. Hyundais have electric power steering instead of belt driven pumps. But they still require power steering fluid, Check the fluid to see if it is low. That would trigger the signal to come on.
