How to remove my Keys from 2003 envoy they are stuck

Ignition Lock Cylinder Control Actuator
If the vehicle is equipped with a floor mounted console gear shifter, it has a ignition lock cylinder control actuator system in the steering column as an added safety feature. The ignition lock cylinder control actuators purpose is to prevent the steering wheel from being locked when the transmission is in gear and the vehicle may still be moving. The column ignition lock system consists of a ignition lock cylinder control acutator, and a park position switch that is located in the A/T shift lock control switch. The ignition lock cylinder control acutator contains a pin that is spring loaded out to mechanically prevent the ignition key cylinder from being turned to the lock position when vehicle transmission is not in the Park position. If vehicle power is lost, and/or the transmission is not in the Park position the operator will not be able to turn the ignition key to the lock position and will not be able to remove the ignition key from the column. GM has had some problems with this , If you have the console shifter there is a micro switch that when put into park a linkage pushes on this micro switch closing the circuit to ignition lock cylinder control actuator allowing you to remove your key ! These linkages fall out causing this problem ,an have electrical wiring problems as well ! I fixed a 2006 Chevy cobalt that had this same problem by getting a used shifter assembly at the auto salvage year ! cost $20.00 . There mite be a access hole under the bottom of the steering column with a release button up inside !

I have a 2003 Pontiac grand am gt my ignition want turn and my steering wheel isn't locked also my floor gear shift is moving with the key out

Your shifter isn't going into the park position or the solenoid that locks the shifter and sends a signal to the ignition switch is bad. I believe you have to replace the entire shifter to fix this problem.

2003 cavalier with auto trans-locks in park but slides through all other gears-- what do you think ?

It would lock in park with the key off because of an electric solenoid.
Are you saying the shifter is not connected to the cable going to the transmission ?

Cant get my gear shift out of park on my 2003 aztek

turn the key on 1 position from off and attempt to move the shifter if you can move the shifter you have a faulty park lock solenoid (even if u can move the shifter it still more than likely is the park lock solenoid) have it replaced this is a nuisance yes but does not in any way affect the safety and operation of the vehicle

to use it with the faulty part turn key on 1 position move shifter to neutral and start car then move shifter to desired position

My renault megane automatic is stuck in reverse and won't start

Hi all,
I have a 2002 Renault Megane 1.6 Convertible and experienced exactly the same fault. Needed a team effort but we found a very easy quick fix to this problem. If you take the plastic cover off from under the gear shifter, you will notice a release button covered by a rubber cover. Pressing this release button allows the gear shifter to move from its locked/jammed position. (This is not the fix but it helps with the fix).
If you are fortunate enough to have a 2nd person available, have them poke their head under the bonnet to watch the Gearbox cable move....while you are shifting the gear shifter inside the vehicle. Your partner will see that a cable with a plastic locking device (right hand side of the engine cover) has popped off the shifter for the transmission. Move the shifter until you can physically put the plastic locking device back on the shifter mechanism and your all good to go. No need for that new gearbox that you might have been quoted on!! An easy fix that I am surprised no mechanically minded professional/body in the world has volunteered the solution to. I wonder why????

Good luck!

Gear locks when i park on even a slight incline

ALWAYS engage the Parking Brake BEFORE putting car into "Park". When you want to get out of "Park", put your foot on the brake pedal, move gear shifter into desired gear, THEN take down Parking Brake. If you get stuck (gear shifter doesn't move), then try the "rocking" method (recruit 1 or 2 folks to push your car from behind while you try to move gear shifter into desired gear). Good luck!
