Rough idle(rich) stalls in gear

1993 vortec v6 in gmc jimmy. rough idle stalls when stpo in drive or rev. ben sitting 6months. took off air box seams to run a little better

Basically clean up before use like opening the plugs and adjusting the spark gaps, spray some carb cleaner at the intake & if The soud of the engine smoothens even slightly, then add some it to the fuel in the fuel filter & gun the engine a few time. Flush the radiator and fill in frsh coolant/water. Check the level of water in the battery and top up with distilled water. Clean the air filter and check fan belt tightness. After these small maintenace checks it should run OK.......sodeep

Idle air control (IAC) control rpm idle during idle.

Test it on idle with ALL electrical on full force.
RPM should increase.
If RPM remain the same then IAC is question.

Is it carbureted or fuel injected? There might be a screw by where the throttle cable attaches to the carb that adjusts where the throttle plate sits at idle. Or the timing could be too far advanced. You can adjust that by loosening the nut under the distributer and turn it slowly with the engine running. Counter clockwise.

Try disconnecting the wire to the mass airflow sensor, and see if the symptoms change drastically. It's a three wire connector right behind the air filter box. This is what it looks like on a 97 4.2 liter v6. If the vehicle runs better, get some MAF cleaner fluid, and try cleaning it. It may need replacement, but only if the symptoms change with it disconnected.

95 gmc jimmy rough idle fuel in exhaust drives

Purchase new egr valve gasket with screen on it. The motor as it get older produces more carbon it then begins to break off and when the valve opens it get caught in there. i have cleaned mine several times and finally found the gasket at napa for around 22 bucks. All you need it 10mm wrech and 10mm socket with ext. takes around 10 min to do.

I got a 1994 gmc s15 jimmy with the vortec 4.3 it idles rough but whaen i drive it give it gas it runs great what would cause that.

sounds like it could be a problem in the IAC circuit. The Idle Air Control valve manages how much air gets into the engine while @ idle. It receives commands from the ECM based on inputs from at least the mass air flow, coolant temp, throttle position and oxygen sensors
