SOURCE: motor reves up high when started can not keep it

First check to make sure the throttle return springs are closing the throttle. If that's good, the problem is likely a bad idle air control valve/motor. Take the valve out and check for obstructions in the port that could keep the valve from closing. Then, if you have an ohmmeter, you can run these checks on the valve:

Remove IAC, check for obstructions in passage, run electrical testsjturcotte_551.gif
    1. Disengage the IAC electrical connector.
    2. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between IAC terminals A and B . Next measure the resistance between terminals C and D .
    3. Verify that the resistance between both sets of IAC terminals is 20-80 ohms. If the resistance is not as specified, the IAC may be faulty.
    4. Measure the resistance between IAC terminals B and C . Next measure the resistance between terminals A and D .
    5. Verify that the resistance between both sets of IAC terminals is infinite. If the resistance is not infinite, the IAC may be faulty.
    6. Also, with a small mirror, inspect IAC air inlet passage and pintle for debris. Clean as necessary, as this can cause IAC malfunction.

SOURCE: need picks and location of

There are 4 bolts on the 2.4 Twin Cam cover on top of the engine. I believe they are 13mm. Remove them, and pull the cover up and off. Under there are the spark plugs. And you will see the ignition system connected as one with the cover.

There are no spark plug wires.
You'll find springs inside of insulator 'boots' when you get in there.

Need to change fan motor control switch? Only works on high setting.

this problem is not caused by the switch, it is caused by a defective blower motor speed control resistor, the resistor is located near the blower motor.

Windows problem

I purchased a 2001 Pontiac Grand AM GT in March 2001. Since that time, I have had three windshields, and all the window motors/regulators replaced. Now I need to have the windows repaired again. I have been the only driver of this car, and have less than 69,000 miles. How do you get Pontac to fix this? I cannot afford to replace again, since I am trying am no longer receiving a pay check, and have applied for disability. Thank you, Linda

Same exact problem.

Could be the plunger motor/ vaccum plunger under the hood. If the cruise light is on, the computer thinks it is working.
