I have taken the door panel off of my '98 GMC Sierra to fix my door handle, which does not work anymore. It has no resistance against it, and moves side to side without even trying to open the door. When i get to the handle itself, it shows a rivett at the bottom, which seems as if you would have to take the rivett out, and the handle assembly would slide off for access behind the door panel. Do you know of an easier way to fix this problem?

Broken inside door handles are a common problem and there is not an easier way of fixing problem.drill out head of rivet with a 3/16 drill bit.Then slide handle assy. from panel.To install new handle attach the two rods you removed .Then slide new handle back into the slots and replace the rivet.

How to troubleshoot power window problems
Easy its probably the plastic tread that the window motor moves to raise or lower your window or its the window thread is also inside the door. Only way to determine it is move door panel screws, handles, switches then pry the clips out to remove panel. you can see what is wrong/broke and fix.

remove the few screws around the pull handle and or door latch handle. Then pry off the panel. This will damage the plastic snap-in holders. They will have to be replaced. they are very cheap at the dealership or probably even any auto parts store...

on the inside of the trim peice take a flathead screwdriver and gently work around the inside of the trim peice and if you find the right spots were the clips are it will just pop off.

2000 GMC Sierra passenger door won't lock
The Actuator is not functioning anymore, check to see if there is a fuse for it first. If that is ok then remove the actuator and test it outside using some wire and your car battery to see if actually moves or doesent this will tell you if you need a replacement.

DOOR HANDLE INSIDE BROKEN 98 SIERRA
It helps to have a flat pry tool to get the door panel off but, other than that it's not too hard. Autozone has a tool in the help section that is made to work with those and they have the replacement push clips that always seem to break.
