My wife and I recently bought a 2006 Hummer H2. It was heavily modified in the engine bay including the exhaust system. We bought it from a dealership who did not know of the history because they bought it in auction. We of course did a Carfax on it which showed service history up to 4 years ago. We just did an oil change and the store bought oil filter part number was incorrect for the model. It called for ph3506 on a Fram, the one we had to get was PH10060, as it was on the engine when we bought it. I know it is a Hummer engine, I just want to be reassured it is the original engine and we can do repairs fairly easily. I'm not finding many resources on how to decipher the engine stamp code.

First thing that i would reccomend is switching to 5w30 oil since this is what GM wants you to run in your hummer. Next i assume your gauge is pegged out and doesn't fluctuate. You are going to have to take your hummer down to the local dealer and have a computer hooked up to see if the gauge is bad or the oil pressure sender is bad, more than likely the sender. thanks for using fixya !! have a nice day

it can be easily changed by removing the plastic cover then u will see the light bulb, don't try to change it from the back, it wont open :)
SOURCE: where is the oil sending unit on 2006 hummer h2
Just finished changing one out tonight on a 2004 H2 with 6.0L. It's on the back of the block, behind the intake manifold and beside the distributer. There is a wire harness connector on one side and a manifold bolt on the other so it's a tight space. Use a 12 point thin-wall deep socket (a 6 point deep impact socket won't clear). Then slid a 6" long piece of hose over the new unit to get started in the hole, wasn't enough room to get hands in to install without the hose.

The engine cover just pulls off the clips so no problem their the oil filter is inside a plastic housing at the front of the engine rightish side and it has a 32mm or 28 mm head on the top of the plastic housing as its a cartridge type oil filter not a screw on type that you are accustomed too.
