You didn't say what kind of machine you have but just by the sound of it you either have a bad needle and seat or a heavy float in the carb. It has to be one or the other. I hope this helps. Take care.

SOURCE: my 1987 chrysler conquest tsi floods the engine and won't start

your best solution wont work because it is an 88 they can only scan '96 and newer when OBD II came out so know what you are talking about before you post
those cars are known for fuelinjection probs. your best bet is to first get your self a fuel pressure regulator and Gauge to determin how much fuel you are pushung and get it tuned up by some one who knows what they are doing because tuning will make or break a turbo car

SOURCE: hard to start and won't stay running

Put fuel in it,then check the fuel pressure with a gauge. The tank unit maybe giving a false reading.

SOURCE: truck won't stay running

Check the fuel pressure at the Shredder Valve, You should have 60PSI to 65PSI upon start and should drop about 5PSI when running. If your fuel pressure is good then it may be a bad injector system. The fuel injector spider system that the vortec has are know to go bad, from the fuel pressure regulator to the puppet fuel valves. Change the fuel filter first if it has not been changed yet and have the fuel pressure check. Good luck and keep me posed. Note: it's been know that spraying ether to start the vortec with the spider injector system has got the puppet valves to catch fire and melt the ends of the puppet valve leading to the replacement to the whole system. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to help.

SOURCE: Toyota 22r starts hard and floods. Repalced

It sounds like the carb. float is set to high and /or the needle and seat has some dirt in it allowing to much fuel inside the carb.. This will allow to much fuel into the engine. It seems the carb could use a rebuild and dont forget to replace your fuel filter.I hope this helps.

Even starting fluid will not fire if engine is flooded or compression is low at ignition time.

2004 Gsxr won’t start, replaced fuel pump and fuel hose, started with starter fluid, but dies quickly. Sat for bout a year! Trying to bring back to life

From here just go through what you need to run and what you know. You know that it will start with starting fluid so you have spark. Next check your airbox and make sure it's clean. If all that's good and you have compression then you are not getting fuel where it needs to go. If it's fuel injected then get some fuel injector spray and clean those babies out. Make sure there is fuel getting to he fuel pump. If it sat with fluid in the tank then you may need to clean it out real good. My guess is that your petcock is clogged. If you have carbs then you may have to clean them more than once to get all the gunk out.

1982 JEEP HESITATES WHILE DRIVING AND DIES

2 things. come to mind.
i check the distributor advance works to spec with my timing light (strobe)
if that is ok, its a carb issue.

carbs fail for many reasons, (mostly gummed up inside)
we clean them. that fixes them. (with a kit)
I only have this for symptoms, and is not good.
MAJOR HESITATION AND STALLING OCCURS
does the engine have full power up any hill wide open throttle
is the Hesitation only a short time then catches up.
The carb (not stated P/N or brand) has jets, the if gummed up
will cause lean running.
so will any power valve jet.
ever tune it up. new spark pats, rotor all the way to spark plugs.
bad spark , loves to fail under load, that is its , magic.
carb>
  1. low float bowl levels.
  2. low fuel pressure causing above,
  3. bad float valve , sticks closed and starts bowl of fuel, causing #1
  4. Gummed up jets.
  5. Gummed up emulsion tubes in carb body.
  6. Choke stuck on, causing flooding,
  7. Choke dead causing hard starts . (stuck open)
  8. power valve clogged.
  9. Highspeed accelerator pump bad, causing only sight hesitation.

my guess? based on 1 word "stall" its #1 to 3 or 6.
black spark plug tips would be #6

or if black sparks, the float valve is stuck open flooding engine and stalling.

we can go for days on carbs. but will not.

I have a 94 Caprice 4.3 v8 and the past week it will run fine the acts like it's not getting enough fuel back fire real loud and die and it takes bout 10 mins before it will start again then when it does...

not starving fuel but "flooding out" and putting unburnt fuel in the exhaust system which ignites and damages mufflers and cat converters
check for excessive fuel pressure or bad /leaking injectors
