Check and replace the water temperature sensor. Your engine is staying in cold start mode because the sensor is faulty and not sending pulse to computer for it to take it out of cold start mode. The engine is constantly flooding. Like keeping the choke on with the early carbureted vehicles.

SOURCE: Landcruiser GXL 2002 Turbo Diesel - Fuel ? problem

I can only relate this problem to those similar to Ford F150's,,,on the fords it would be bad grounds from the battery to the frame, and engine,,and from the engine to the Firewall.
This would play havoc with the ECM especially when it was damp.
So i can only suggest the obvious to me at least.
Good luck to you.

HI! The other thing that controls the fuel is the PCM (powertrain control module). The PCM is like the car's brain that when it fails everything else's fail. The PCM has connectivity on all electrical current that runs inside the car including the engine and transmission. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

My car is a Toyota chaser Gx100 1GFE engine .the problem is intermittent hard start what is the most possible cause?

Bad connection positive to starter ignition switch or the battery ground .You know it will start so it has to be a bad connection .Or a problem with the starting motor wiring is more likely.

My Toyota duet can't start and only cranks. Spark plugs OK, coil OK, fuel pump OK. What could be the problem?

If fuel and spark are good, then check cylinder compression. As I am in the USA, I am not familiar with the Diahatsu-built Toyota Duet. I would suspect that you may have a timing belt-driven engine that may have slipped time or broken a belt.

After it warms up, I'll shut it off then why won't it start back up right away and there's a lack of power?

Check the battery connections, especially the ground cable at both ends, and from engine to chassis. A hot engine may be developing a high resistance there.

Also look to see the air filter element is clean, if this was not already covered in tune up. This can make hot fuel mix too rich to keep running.

After that the fuel pressure in the injector supply rail should be measured to see if hot pressure is up to spec.

The tuneup should have read out any trouble codes (don't assume the trouble light always flashes), but if not, get them to see if there is a clue.

I have a 1994 Toyota Corolla what would make it sputter? It has the 1.6 liter..

A fuel pressure problem, possibly. Have the fuel pressure tested, and if low, could be a weak pump or a fuel filter starting to plug up.
Any number of other things it could be. Always check for trouble codes when a problem develops in the engine management.
Has it just started doing it? Have you put gas into it from a can or jug that may have had water in it? Does it do it all the time engine is running, or at certain speeds of the engine?
If fuel pressure is good, try some injector cleaner, in case some debris got picked up in the tank. Injectors seldom get clogged, I think cause they are always awash in new gas just delivered from the tank. The return line allows the gas to constantly circulate past the injectors.
Well, if it isn't gas, it's gotta be something else. I gotta go. Good night.

What is trouble code for p o 171???

Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 1 detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust). On V6/V8/V10 engines, Bank 1 is the side of the engine that has cylinder #1. Try cleaning your MAF sensor (Mass Air Flow) and run a good fuel system cleaner through it.

My 1991 toyota pick ,will start but shut off ,

I would check out the Mass Air Flow Sensor. Located on top of the air filter box. If the sensor is bad and computer doesn't see air going into the engine, it will automatically keep the engine from running. Try pulling the engine trouble code to confirm is problem.

I'm getting the check engine light code: P0171 running lean on bank 1 for my 2000 Toyota Echo. Any advice on what this means and the cost of getting it fixed? Thanks for your time and expertise.

Trouble Code: P0171

Fuel System Too Lean (Bank 1)
Possible Causes:

A/FS or HO2S is contaminated, deteriorated or it has failed Air leaks after the MAF sensor, or in the EGR or PCV system Base engine "mechanical" fault affecting one or more cylinders Exhaust leaks located in front of the A/FS or HO2S location Fuel system supplying too little fuel during cruise or idle (faulty fuel pump or fuel filter) Fuel injector (one or more) dirty or pressure regulator has failed Vehicle driven low on fuel or until it ran out of fuel
