SOURCE: low oil pressure on 96 toyota 2200cc engine

The oil pump can be changed without pulling the engine.

The impressive looking thing is the balance shaft assembly. These counter-rotating shafts balance out the inherent vibration of the engine. You can remove it, as long as you do not disrupt the gear placements relationship to each other. The balance assembly is set to a specific point.

SOURCE: can you replace the rod bearings from underneath

It's possible, but if you have bad rod bearings, you probably have to get the crank re-done. In other words, if it's knocking, your problem is bearings and crank, not just bearings.

Testimonial: "Thanks Will inspect to see what type of damage there is to the engine. Hope it's just the bearings. Thanks for the reply"

SOURCE: changing rod bearings

You'll find that once you've removed the connecting rod cap, that you can easily replace that one of course, so take a small screwdriver and use it to push up on the other bearing, on the side that doesn't have the notch, you should be able to also push up a hair on the rod to get a little slack, but the bearing will slide around the crank and you just reinsert the smooth part first, kind of just the opposite of what you just did to reinstall. center the bearing in the rod, pull the rod flush with the crank and reinstall the lower cap and torque to specificatioin.

Of course, lots of oil on the bearings & crank, if there is damage to the crank, you may want to turn it enough with the cap & rod not on it to polish it a bit with emory cloth.

Clearance shouldn't be a factor but you must torque to the exact specs to get the correct "crush" on those bearings and provide proper contact, while not being too tight to cause immediate breakdown by not letting the oil pass & lubricate the crank.

Hope that sheds some light on it. Crank bearings can be changed the same way.

good luck.

Can you replace main bearings without removing engine citroen c4 grand picasso 1.6 diesel 2007

You cannot replace the main bearings without removing the engine. only the rod bearings are replaceable if the oil pan will clear chassis for access to crank shaft. Why do you need main bearings on a 2007, these bearings should be good for 500,000 miles. what happened? (run without oil?)

I have an '01/'02 Grand Cherokee Laradeo, when I slow down the oil pressure drops to zero, when I accelerate it goes back up. There is a quiet knock as well, this just started happening. Pleas

If there was no noise when it went to zero I would replace the sending unit by the oil filter for a few dollars. If it is a light ticking and it is all the time I would replace the bad lifter but if it is more clanking or thumping you have problems. If you disconnect one plug wire at a time and run it for a few seconds and the noise goes away that cylinder has a bad connecting rod bearing. I would pull the oil pan and replace the bearing. Or just replace crank and connecting rod bearings and get rid of it

Oil pump pressure reading on gauge

Any engine that cannot produce at least 15psi pressure at idle likely has a pressure loss at the crank bearings (most commonly connecting rod bearings) You can check the clearance by using plasti-gage on them once you have the pan removed.
Most times the pump is blamed for the loss of pressure but actually the pump likely has some scoring inside the housing and on the gear ends that has been caused by bearing material getting in there.
If you replace the pump alone, some pressure will be restored but that will go away quickly as more bearing material is ingested.
The pump should be replaced along with the failing bearing shells (actually best to replace all). If main bearings are worn (rare) engine will need to be removed for that service.
Always re-check bearing clearances before re assembling the engine. If any are still out of clearance, you may want to use an oversize bearing there. After checking or replacement, always re-torque anything that was removed.
Clearance specifications can be found in any good manual.

Crank - Piston Rod Bearing Replacement - Queston

You will have to have the crankshaft machined if the rod bearing is the cause of the noise, so you will have to pull the engine, if u don't do the crank the bearing will fail in a few miles.

Changing rod bearings

Yes you will have to raise engine to pull pan, but more importantly is why do you need to change rod bearings? If they need replacing you will probably have to change the mains as well as rings and so on. If you have run it knocking, you could have damaged the crankshaft and new bearings won't stay. Suggest you check a little deeper before going to all this expense.
