Re: Rough running and timing jumps all over the place
I'm sure someone has a tester for those but being as old as it is, I doubt if you will find anyone. Likely the test costs more than just getting another from a scrapyard. I've never seen one do that, but with electronics, I am never surprised by anything!
This engine was rebuilt 30k miles ago and ran great until we had fuel pump problems. Replaced fuel tank, high and low pressure pumps and now the timing will not stay in one place. I thought if it was spark control module on distributor, it wouldn't run at all. Distributor is tight and has all new components (cap, rotor, wires, plugs, and coil. It does not throw any codes, is there a way to test the ECM? I'm stumped.
No cross firing and the distributor shaft has almost no play. I have never seen timing jump around like this, any way to test module or ECM?

I can get a new ECM for $140.00 from NAPA, I think that is the best way to go, never know about scrapyard electronics!
stupid question...you already said it runs rough...I'll learn to read soon too!
Check the inside of the distributor cap to make sure it's not cross firing internally. (Tracking from an arc.) Make sure shaft has no appreciable side play.
