Ford never used a slant six, that was Dodge. Defective Master cylinder for the clutch. Both parts master and slave should be replaced at once.

SOURCE: new clutch was put in a 1985 ford escort lx 6

I would definately suspect that, and also the master cylinder associated with it.

SOURCE: How do you replace the slave cylinder on a 1992 f150?

It is not usually necessary to replace the slave cylinder. Remove the cylinder and wash in metho. Exmine it for rust, pitting or grooving. If ok scuff the glaze from the cylinder walls with 320 grit w&d paper and more metho. Wash well with metho dry and fit a new kit of rubbers. Lubricate these with brake fluid ot rubber grease as you assembe. Refit the slave cylinder and bleed out the air. Job done.

SOURCE: I have a 1996 f150 4x4 5 speed v 4.9 engine that

did you bleed the slave cylinder? On the slave cylinder there should be a bleeder screw just like a brake caliper, perform the bleed procedure just like a brake, pump clutch and open slave bleeder, repeat untill all air is no longer noticed. keep master filled with fluid and top off when completed

1996 ford f150 5.0 engine will not start

I' m not mechanic, but rather thinker. If cylinder #1 is the only variable here, them it might be the join of the cylinder/ piston that is defective or has more play! Hope you can find prompt solution! Cheers. Robert Calgary, AB

I replace it with a used one 5 sp transmission and now the one i replace it with will not shift

Doesn't matter what gear it's in when you install it. Are you sure you got the shift lever installed right? With the truck not running, can you move the shifter around into all gears? If not, either the shift lever is not installed right, or the transmission has an internal fault. If you can't shift gears only when running, the clutch is not working. On Ford pick-ups with the clutch slave cylinder inside the bell housing of the transmission, best practice is to replace the slave cylinder along with the new clutch.

1990 ford f250 5 speed zf trans just had transmission rebuilt truck still jumps when i take off in second

Check your motor and transmission mounts. Not much into the slave cylinder, but on hydraulic cylinders there is sometimes a run-out where the hydraulic pressure is too weak to do the job. This sometimes happens with the shaft leaking internally and allowing pressure to bypass the valving. But you have a different one, is it good?

Consider a shock absorber. The first push it can make, then it does not refill the void fast enough to make the second push. Because of engine reving, you jump from 1 to 2 quicker than 2 to 3 gear. The slave cylinder does not have enough time to refresh. Maybe look at the weight of the oil in the slave cylinder.

I am having problems getting my 1998 ford ranger 2.5L into gear. The shifter is loose, and I have to put it in neutral to start it.

If your having to put it in neutral to start because its wanting to move while clutch is pushed in and the transmission is in gear, and shifter gears is rough, then the clutch probably needs replaced, or clutch slave cylinder needs replaced.

1999 f150 4.2 5 speed won't shift. have to start

Have you checked the clutch master cylinder? If it is low on fluid it means you may have a leak possibly at the slave cylinder. Add fluid if needed and see if it improves.

Could be clutch is worn. Check shift fork. Also the throw out bearing should be replaced.
