I'm trying to find out why my oil light comes on while I'm driving and the car acts like it wants to shut off in my 1993 buick park avenue. What would make it do that?

Check oil level, 1993 cars have a lot o miles on them and engines wear our. The oil light comes on just before engine damage begins. Stop driving and check oil level. If you have add more tan 1 quart, your engine is losing oil, either by a leak or oil consumption cause by worn rings, piston or engine bore.
Good luck

Testimonial: "The oil level is fine. Nothing tends to be a problem with the oil. It starts spurtering like it wants to cut off, thats what really concerns me."

Perhaps the oil pressure sensor is bad, the pump is worn. The switch should measure oil pressure. This will not be an easy check. the puttering could be many things, take to autozone and have them scan it. Also EGR valve, theey tend have a build uo under seat.

SOURCE: ''92 BUICK PARK AVENUE 3.8 HOW TO RESET CHANGE OIL

The reset button is located under the passenger side of the instrument panel.

With the ignition in the ON position, but the engine not started, use a pencil to push the reset button, holding it for five seconds.

After this, the "Change Oil Soon" lamp will flash four times. This indicates that the Oil Life Monitor System has acknowledged the oil change.

SOURCE: 92 buick park ave security light on car wont start

Someone put the wrong key (resistor value) in the ignition lock, you will have to disconect the battery for 3 min. Make sure you have the right key. Very important! Make sure the climate control is off before disconecting/conecting the battery.
