The thermostat should open around 180 although the engine temp might run a little higher than that

it might get as high as 200 but if it continues to clime you have a problem if it climbs when you are not moving you may have a problem with your cooling fan if it climbs when you are driving you may have a problem with the radiator in both cases the thermostat could be stuck closed to check warm up the truck and feel the return hose it should be hot. also make sure the front of the radiator is not plugged and air can flow throw it.

Vortecs are a little different that old school small blocks, grab a Haynes or Chiltons, the cross patterns and specs are simply diagramed. Vortec, as any really, start with 25# then 45# and then final torque which I believe is around 70-75# but to be sure verify with the manual. AutoZones, Murry's, Adavance auto all carry the books, Cheap insurance.

Need more info. Does it blow fuses all the time, has this problem gotten worse or was out of nowhere, Does it happen when you go into 4wd or out?

sounds like your engine immobiliser fuel cut off is activating.try taking battery teminals off,re-connect and re activate your immobiliser fob the usual way,**** it will re-set itself,& or your fob battery may need changing,it,s anti-theft cut off that is your problem.good luck.

Depends on what thermostat you put in. Stock is a 190*. Which will usally run about 200-210. That's where most all small blocks are happy.

REPLACE RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP AND CHECK THE COOLING FAN CLUTCH.WHEN YOUR ENGINE HOT WHEN YOU TRY TURNING CLUTCH FAN WITH YOUR HAND WHEN ENGINE IS HOT.THERE SHOULD BE RESISTANCE IN THE FAN.IF CLUTCH FAN SPINS FREELY WHILE ENGINE HOT.YOU NEED TO REMOVE COOLING FAN TO REPLACE CLUTCH.
