My vauxhall vectra is running lumpy. It seems to be running at about 750rpm's. I've changed the ignition coil pack and all 4 spark plugs but it still struggles. The exhaust gas light is on.

Put a code reader on and it said misfire on 1&4. Thats why changed the coil pack and spark plugs. Just been MOT.

The problem could be several things and the first thing to test/replace would be the oxygen sensors
Dribbling injectors and/or bad spray patterns is another possibility.
Intake air leaks; gasket or vacuum hose. Blocked crankcase breather.
These engines are particularly sensitive to any poor intake valve seatings. The smallest leakage can cause a lumpy idle and a standard compression check is useless. The key to accurately testing these is a cylinder leakage test.

A misfire doesn't always have to be ignition... it's just the most common cause. Faulty or plugged injector, low compression. You need to check fuel pressure and test the fuel injector flow. Then check compression. If you don't have tools for these tests, take it to someone who does. Testing is much cheaper than throwing parts at the problem.

did you check the ICM (ignition control module) that's what the coil pack sits on. Inspect if for wire damage and you can remove the ICM and have it tested at Auto Zone or Parts Source free of charge.
Thank you for using FIxya and good luck

Vauxhall engine

The ignition system is responsible for the starting engine:
the primary circuite is battery, ignition switch, ignition contact, condenser, ballast resistor. The secondary circuite. provide high tension to fire the spark plugs, add ignitioncoil, distributor, cap, rotoretc, high tension wiring, spark plugs. Test the mayor problem: 1) contact points and 2) coil.IF the ignition system do not provde the 20,000 or 30,000 volts, for spark plugs, will not work.

Easy test carefully:use screwdriver with the spark plug cables put around about 1/4 of inch againt the chassis give ignition, and some spark is coming, test by each spark plug cables, IF do not the coil can be faulty.

God bless you

I have a 2.5 v6 vectra b gsi just had a recent misfire changed spark plugs and ht leads but no change. Tried second coil packs and all show no fire on number 5. What else could be the problem?

This code I asume is P0305, this is a code that indicates that the cylinder power is below specs compared to other cylinders. The causes of this are many, ignition is just one of them. Does that cylinder have compression ( No more than 5% lower than the hightest reading on all other cylinders)

05 Ford Escape, coils #3 & #4 not firing. We've replaced the battery, spark plugs, alternator, coil packs, & pcm. Had pcm reflashed. Garage said it had to be coil packs, but just replaced coil packs 3

Check engine light on ? Code's ? What engine ? 2.3 l 4cylinder or 3.ol v-6 This vehicle has coil on plug ignition system , not coil packs ! a coil per cylinder . If new coils an still has no spark , has no B+ voltage to the coil or the PCM isn't controlling them . Without testing i'd only be guessing as to the problem .If the repair shop you had it to can only say it had to be the coils , I'd find another shop to take it to !
