When a cable comes off, it's because of a broken part. If you put the cable back on the old regulator, it will just come off again. Replace the regulator

SOURCE: 98 VW Window Regulator

Do you have the metal assebly completely in front of you? And you've made sure all the cables are passed the same. If yes there should be an arrow type area on each pulley? Also each pulley should have a smaller and a larger area?

SOURCE: need help with fixing power window

I'm pretty sure, that is sold as a regulator unit only. And it's not cheap. Sometimes it's cheaper at a glass place than the dealer.

it is not off track. the grinding or metal scratching noise is from the window regulator cable that has broke off from the plastic idler pulley on regulator and is now wound up on the motor. you need a new window regulator.

The passenger side window, something broke down in the door, the motor for the power windows still works, but there is nothing holding the window up? What broke? Is it a do it yourself job to fix it?

Its the window regulator thats broke. Most are made with plastic brackets and cable. The plastic breaks and the cable goes nuts then nothing is holding the window. You need to get a regulator, if you can take the door panel off you should be able to handle installing the window regulator.

I have a 1997 bmw 528i and the back windows are not working. I can hear the motor but the windows do not go down. How do I access the windows to see where the problem may lie?

remove the handles and door panels you will find the track strip the raises the glass up and down to be broken or stripped ! that can be replaced from a salvage or order one new!

Rear window does not move. motor appears to be working but there is a cable that seems to be out of sinc.

these are operated by cable drive window lift regulator, a pain to replace, just get a new one and don't forget to lube the window run channels in the door with spray silicone, the lack of lube is what destroys the regulators, well u are at it lube them all.
