I found this solution and will not take credit for it, I had the same problem.
To change the spark plugs on a 2000 Kia Sephia, at least in a 1.8L version, first disconnect the battery, then, remove the black plastic cover on top of the motor. There should be 6 Phillips-head screws holding it down. After removing the plastic cover, you will see two rubber covers for the spark plug wires on each side, and two gel-looking insuated tubs attatched to more wires in the middle. To remove two of the spark plugs, you must carefully pull the rubber covers upward. They clip onto the spark plugs so you will need to use careful force to pull them out. Once you have them pulled out, you can look in and see the plug. It requires a 5/8 spark plug socket with an adapter to reach in. Make sure you push the socket on hard enough so that it clips onto the spark plug, other wise it will fall over and you wont be able to get it out without a LOT more work. Finish that plug by plugging the rubber covered spark plug wire back onto the spark plug, covering the hole. You can do the same thing for the plug on the opposite side.
For the two in the middle, you need to first unbolt and remove the insulated boxes that cover the spark plug holes (you can unplug the white connectors but make sure you plug them back in when you are done). Then all you have to do is do the same thing you did with the two outer ones to replace the plugs. Perform this one plug at a time, and make sure you cover the holes with a cloth or paper towel if you leave them open for any period of time. When you finish, make sure all the wires are connected, then reconnect the battery.
IF YOU DONT SEE PLUGS WIRES RUNNING DOWN SIDE CYLINDER BLOCK TO SPARK PLUGS.YOUR SPARK PLUGS HAS COILS SETTING ON TOP OF THEM.YOU HAVE A INDIVIDUAL COIL FOR EACH CYLINDER.SOME ENGINES HAS SPARK PLUGS IN VALVE COVERS LIKE CADILAC.SOME ENGINE SPARK PLUGS UNDER ENGINE HEAD COVER WITH COILS ON TOP OF SPARK PLUGS.
There is a tunnel intake tube, remove it,but there is a black plastic vacuum reservoir on the back connected to it,remove it first,it is not easy to do,after these are out of the way,the black plastic cover that goes down the middle of the valve cover has the coils, two of them, and two wires, and four spark plugs under it.If this was at all helpful, please rate, and thank you.
i'm guessing that your car is a 4-cylinder. this is common for inline 4-cylinder engines. since the spark plug holes usually go through the valve cover, the valve cover gasket will leak and collect in the spark plug holes. to fix this you will have to replace the valve cover gasket.
Inspection Inspect the spark plug tip for wear and damage. If the tip is
covered with carbon, replace the plug. Do not drop or shock the spark
plug. If the ceramic body is broken replace the plug.

Removal & Installation WARNINGDo not attempt to remove spark plugs when the engine is hot.
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Remove the air intake hose assembly.
Remove the accelerator cable bracket.
Remove the six bolts and coil cover from cylinder head cover.
Remove the four bolts and the two coils from the cover.
Disconnect the high tension leads from the spark plugs by twisting
the boot and removing.
Use compressed air to remove any dirt from around the spark plug
hole.
Make sure the spark plug socket fits squarely on the spark plug,
and then remove.
To install:
Be sure the spark plug gap is set to 0.039-0.043 in.
(0.98-1.09mm).
Apply anti-seize compound to the spark plug threads.
Carefully install the spark plug into the cylinder head and torque
to 11-17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
Reconnect high tension leads.
Install the two ignition coils and torque four mounting bolts to
14-19 ft. lbs. (26 Nm).
Install the coil cover and secure with six bolts
Install the accelerator cable bracket.
Reconnect the air intake hose assembly.
Reconnect the negative battery cable.
Have a nice day. Good luck (remember rated this help)
Remove 6 10mm bolts holding spark plug cover on valve cover. Then once cover is removed, pull off spark plug boots and use 16mm socket to remove spark plugs. Thanks
Oh, ok. No, they shouldn't be related. The plug cover meaning the spark plug wire boot that goes over the spark plug hole? Why won't it stay in? Is the spark plug missing? Those plug wires snap onto the spaek plug holding the wire on the plug.. There should be a spark plug in the hole. If not, you probably had it blown out. That happens once in a blue moon. If the plug is missing, get a new one and carefully install it by hand, no rachet. If the plug won't start in the hole the first few threads mat be strippe. Do not cross-thread the new plug. Spark plug hole taps are available at parts stores. good luck
Locate the spark plug cover on the engine. On some Toyota Tacoma engines, the cover is across the top of the engine. On others, it is along the side 4 cyl. Remove the cover to reveal the ignition coils and spark plugs wires. The spark plug wires are plugged directly into the engine and the ignition coils are in the tip of the spark plug wire. Remove the coil and wire from the spark plug. Twist and pull the plug out of the engine. Remove the spark plug from the cylinder well with a socket extender and socket wrench. Turn the wrench to the left to unscrew the spark plug from the engine. Discard the old spark plug and apply a coat of anti-seize compound to the threads of the new spark plug. Insert the new spark plug into the socket. Use the socket and extension to screw the spark plug into place. Return the ignition coils and spark plug wires to the engine and turn it to lock the plug in place. Repeat the entire the process with the remaining spark plugs. Replace the spark plug cover when all of the spark plugs are replaced. Good luck and hope this helps and The spark plug tension may range between 11 and 15 foot pounds, depending on the size of the spark plug. The correct tension is indicated on the spark plug's packaging.
