SOURCE: how to change headlight on 2004 Mercury

When you open the hood you will see a cover where the hood latch is. Some covers have individual doors on each side of the hood latch. If you have that type just pop the release on the cover and reach down to the headlamp bulb. It comes out with a twist with the socket and then pull the bulb free. Use a kleenex or gloves to install new bulb and reverse the process.

If the whole panel is one piece there are some plastic button holders to remove to lift the cover. Your headlights are underneath. In some cases the passengers side headlight may require removing the battery to access. Then just twist the socket and remove the bulb afterwards, then reverse process.

This sounds most like a worn lock actuator which wouldn't be uncommon. If you need a diagram on how to replace, let me know.

Sorry we do not have this diagram. You need a factory service manual for this kind of detailed info. The manuals are copy protected but you can buy access here.

Atv won,t shift into reverse

2004 Mercury Grand Marquis is not an ATV. Reverse on some ATV's has a knob on the handlebar attached to a cable that sometimes goes out of rig. (the cable prevents shifting down past neutral unless pulled)

2000 grand marquis gear shift loose

At the end of the steering column, under the dash is a steel bracket that the inner portion of the shift cable is attached to. There are two t30 torx bolts affixing this bracket to the shift tube in the steering column. These bolts commonly come loose. You will have to stand on your head under the dash, but tightening these two bolts will solve your problem.

Check under the dash at your Brake pedal interlock switch. It is timed with the gearshift Interlock and Ignition switch. This switch usually gets hit by feet and dislodged or broken. When you shift out of Park, the switch is toggling to a broken piece and shorting out.

The brake interlock switch is at the top half of the pedal lever. The other part of the Interlock uses a rod or cable in the steering column Ignition switch and mates with the shifting mechanism.

Very likely you have a loose connection on your transmission shift linkage, or you have a shift cable that is no longer tight.

First jack up the vehicle and secure with a jack stand. Check the connection on the drivers side of the transmission to make sure it is connected tight. There should be a nut holding the shift lever in place. If it is correctly fastened, remove the steering column plastic covers by unscrewing screws and check for loose connections.

How do I adjust the linkage on my 1995 Mercury Grand Marquis shifter is sloppy

The bolts loosen up on the bracket that holds the shifter shaft to the cable. Look up from the floor board and look above the steering column in the shift cable area. Wiggle the shifter and you should see the problem. Tighten the bolts with a torx bit.
