If your timing belt is broken your engine is out of time and will not run. DO NOT TRY TO START. If you are lucky I hope a mechanic will be able to repair it but with a broken timing belt you could have bent the the pistons.

The separated gears are turned in opposite direction to each other untill the locking holes align.
It needs abit of force to align the holes, then lock the holes with M6 bolt.

SOURCE: timing belt toyota hilux 2000 broken

More than likely you have some bent valves which can lead to alot of money to fix. If you can do it yourself try to find a wrecked one or one with a bad bottom end and just get there cylinder heads and put on your motor with a new timing belt.

SOURCE: i was driving my toyota

Hi, once you have the check engine light/alarm on any car, you must have the engine CPU scanned first for trouble code's before proceeding to repair irrespective of any sign or damage on the car. This can only be administered with the assistance of a diagnostic computer (OBD-II) scan tool. You can purchase this tool, at your local auto parts store, or you can just have the scan ran at yourlocal auto zone parts store, free of charge. Once the diagnostic scan is administered, you will be able to isolate the issues that have caused the check engine alarm/light to illuminate.
This scan tool will display a print out code and the location of the issue, on the engine, as well. There are Many issues that will cause the engine alarm/light to illuminate.

Most times the check engine alarm/light comes up, it has to do with the engine itself but you can only isolate the main part of the faulty engine by using the scan tool or else you will keep on guessing.

Something is very wrong with the camshaft (lobes worn down?), or the oil galley to the hydraulic lifters is blocked or otherwise has inadequate pressure. I initially considered a broken cam pulley key or slipping belt, but that seems to be ruled out by the distributor rotor turning - it is driven by a gear on the camshaft. It's possible something has slipped out of time - check the timing marks on the crank and cam pulleys, and verify that the key slots on the pulleys are lined up with the key slots on the shafts.

Just stoped and I found part of a belt underneath.

This is your timing belt. The timing belt turns the camshaft and is driven off the crankshaft.
The belt is located under the plastic cover on the engine facing the right fender.
You should replace this belt every 65-75,000 miles.

Toyota corolla engine stopped

hey, this isnt a solution (i dont think), just a comment, the corolla is equipped with a timing chain, located inside the engine with the cams, the belt that you see is a serpentine belt to run all other components like the altinator, water pump and ac. just letting you know. Hope this info is helpful!
