97 monte carlo security light flashing on dash. Won't start. If i turn the key on and start at the starter it will run for 2 or 3 seconds then die

Yes there is. Did you disconnect the battery?

1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON (vehicle will not start).
3. Observe the SECURITY telltale, after approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn OFF.
4. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds .

It could be your security system, do you have a factory key with a chip?

Sounds like a problem with the key switch, probably the security system. You may only have power to the fuel pump when the engine is cranking.
Is the security light on or flashing ?

Make sure clutch switch or neutral switch if auto is making.

try this-make sure the battery is in good condition (charge it if you can) turn everything off (radio, heater/ac/fan, no interior lights)-turn the key on (not start and leave it on for 15 minutes-without turning it off after 15 minutes, turn it to crank-if it is your security system it should start. You have a security module that, over time, is not happy anymore with the feedback it is getting from your ignition switch, and it is disabling your starter. There are a number of fixes ans work arounds for this, but sometimes if you can get it to start it delays the eventual total failure for a while. Try this first, then get back to see if we can help more.

this should be an easy fix, get in your car and turn the key to the on position until all the lights come on and leave it on for 10 minutes and after that turn the key to the off position for 3 seconds and then it should start, this will reset your security system allowing your car to start. hope this helps.

Try and reset it by getting in car make sure every thing is off, close door's turn key to on and way about 10 mins or till light stop's flashing, then turn key to off and start engine.

when you changed the key switch, did you program the key to the car? do you see a lock and key on the dash board?

disconnect battery for 24 hrs so the computer will reset and if that dont work take it to chevy dealer and have them reset it manually
