1-You are *ASSUMING* the (dealership)?? done the work "incorrectly", You need to discuss your concerns with the head person (s) of the shop,2-*ASSUMING* " the work was done "correctly" in accordance to the Manufacturer recall, The only way they can charge you is if you have a problem apart from the recall that is causing the same steering problem and they get your "prior"permission to repair the problem.
3-> VERY IMPORTANT <
With respect to the for mentioned, if the car still has the very same problem , nothing has changed, it is very possible that the manufacturer recall is either incorrect or not complete in order to rectify the problem, i wish you luck in your quest to get your car fixed !!!

I have had exactly the same problem on and off for 3 years now - and just solved it last week thanks to another computer site. Remove and disassemble both grounds from the top of both the left and right frame rails adjacent to the front corners of the engine block. Completely clean the green corrosion from the internal parts with fine sandpaper and add dielectric grease then re-assemble. Clean the mounting bolt and frame hole while you're at it. Sounds time consuming and difficult, but it ain't. No more than 45 minutes combined. I am a technical airhead so if I can do it so can you. What clued me in was the problem always occurred around wet or humid weather. Also, the clock would always lose time overnite. That has ceased also. Good luck. Anyone know why my left headlite, when deployed, vibrates and shimmys??? Sully [email protected]

SOURCE: I have a service wrench

Forget the dealer
You get a check light.leave it,and go to a shop to scan it for the code. Then have them diagnose from there and repair.
You have system malfunctions on both vehicles.

Hello, You need to read system with a scanner to Find out what code is set and what component, Wiring is causing the fault. Would be best to have system read with a GM scanner.

Ther is a knock in the steering colom when you turn left or right.

You may have a noisy Upper Intermediate Steering shaft. There is a service bulletin regarding this type of noise [bulletin #00-02-003N, dated March 26, 2008] that explains what needs to be done. It's just a service bulletin and NOT a recall. Most competent shops will have seen this problem many times and will know what to replace. Good luck, hope this helps!

Power steering goes out randomly

you are 100% right. I have a 2004 avalanche that they want to charge me $250 to replace the intermiediate shaft when they recalled up to 2003 avalanches for this. I was told they thought they had it fixedin 04 but didint, no recall will be issued because it is not a safety issue.

I bought a 2000 Ford and a 1998 Lincoln several years ago, No more GM for me if thats the best they can do. It sure is nice to only have to go to the shop for oil changes.

My 2000 corvette had a recall on the sterring column lock and was repaired. The past weekend the sterring wheel did not . lock up but the fuel system shut down DIC indicated "service steering lock" What's...

I would irately call the dealer and have him send a mechanic out to fix your car where it sits. If he has to tow it in, have them use a car hauler. It would not be unreasonable to expect a decent loaner and they can add it to the recall charge to the company.

The steering column is locked. I followed the directions in the manual but it remains locked and the next step, according to the manual is to tow it to the dealer. It is a 2000 Corvette

I had the same problem on mine ..... apparently their is a recall on the column lock mechanism, that needs to be replaced by the dealer. I had to have mine towed to the dealer for those repairs. The ended up charging me for another part that works with the column lock for 400.00. Please beware.. here is some more info on the Corvette column lock.
Hope this info helps...

DESCRIPTION:
PRODUCT SAFETY #04006C
DATED: FEBRUARY 8, 2006
IMPORTANT:

THIS BULLETIN CANCELS AND REPLACES BULLETIN 04006B, ISSUED NOVEMBER 2004. THE SERVICE PROCEDURE FOR U.S. VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN REVISED. PLEASE REVIEW THIS NEW INFORMATION IMMEDIATELY.

ALL COPIES OF BULLETIN 04006B SHOULD BE DESTROYED.

General Motors has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 1997-2004 model year Chevrolet Corvette vehicles. When you remove the ignition key, the electronic column lock (ECL) system prevents turning of the steering wheel. When the vehicle is started, it unlocks the steering. Two conditions can prevent steering while the vehicle is moving:

1. The vehicle is designed so that if the column fails to unlock when the vehicle is started, the fuel supply will be shut off if the driver tries to move the vehicle. If voltage at the powertrain control module is low or interrupted, however, the fuel shut off may not occur and the vehicle can be accelerated while the steering is locked.
2. During quick cranks, the ECL lock pin may not withdraw fully and, in vehicles where there is abnormally low clearance to the lock plate, there may be contact between the pin and lock plate. This can cause a noise or ratcheting when the steering wheel is turned or, if there is insufficient clearance, the steering wheel cannot be turned.

If one of these conditions occurs, a crash could occur without warning.

CORRECTION:
Dealers are to remove the column lock plate on U.S. and Canadian vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission and U.S. vehicles equipped with a manual transmission. After the service correction, the steering column will no longer lock when the key is removed.

On Canadian and export vehicles equipped with a manual transmission, and export vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, Dealers are to 1) reprogram the PCM, and 2) verify there is adequate lock plate clearance and, if necessary, replace the lock plate. After the service correction, the steering column will continue to lock when the key is removed.

Refer to the Product Safety Bulletin #04006C for further information.

EFFECTIVE DATE:
Owner mailing is scheduled to begin February 15, 2006.
