My 2001 mitsubishi galant will start only if i step on gas peddle. it also has a very low idle 300 250 rpm it will idle sometimes and sometimes it will die out
If you have to step on the gas for it start...need to check you idle air control valve not the fuel pump
Those aren't fuel pump symptoms. Check the engine coolant temp sensor, clean the throttle body and idle air bypass valve.
The throttle body and idle air were cleaned with throttle body cleaner spray .(note) That is where i started having my problem. at first it was that i forgot to replace oring ran sloppy Oriley Auto gave me the wrong oring I replaced IAC ORING AND THATS WHEN ENGINE NEEDED HELP BY ME PRESSING ON GAS PEDDLE IDLE DROPPED AND NOW IS VERY LOW. ILL CHECK COOLANT SENSOR.
yeah, thanks for leaving out that very important information in your first post. You've got classic vacuum leak symptoms. Find the air leak and fix it.
Could be vacuum leak, but likely the IAC solenoid is sticking so suggest you replace with new.

ok heres the thing when a car sets for a long time you have to do more then just clean the tank you also need to flush and replace all fluids in it and replace the fuel filter (that one is key because it empties out the fuel lines and injectors) and also please do youself a favor and replace the timing belt i can not stress that enough every 60,000 miles or 18 months please just to be safe replace the timing belt these 6 bolt 2.0 engines are great and so easy and cheap to build but if you brealk that timing belt you will be buying a new engine but truth be told sonds like you have and intake sensor thats gone out pop ur air can off and check the mas for a wasp nest or something like that

Most Likely Coolant temp sensor & connector.Located in cyclinder head under upper radiatior hose.Two wires to connector yellow & black.Replacement sensor is brass (from saturn) Original is ceramic & cracks cause poor performance,stalling,idle issues.Also check plugs & wires for carbon tracking.Replace plugs & wires as a set all at once.Hope this helps
