SOURCE: RACK AND PINON DODGE RAM 1500 2005

if you have a leak from the back of the rack your sector shaft seal is defective. to replace it you need to remove the rack and do it on the bench.remove the locking nut and pull the seal from inside.if you are a rooky replace the rack with a rebuild one. good luck.

SOURCE: How to replace Inner Tie rod on 1994 Chrysler Town & Country?

222,000 miles? that's a good vechile so far! anyways, do some price checking. new rack and pinions come with the inner tie rods. so if it's like 50 more for the whole assembly, i would but if not, it's up to you. i've changed some rack and pinions on vechiles that were under 150000 due to major leaking. and if you put just new rods in, if it dose start leaking later, you'll get new inner rods again with new system you'll just be paying labor and alingment charges again. so again, my OPINION is if I'm going to keep it for a while and if it's COST effective, just to do the whole unit.

How to do a wheel alinment after puting a rack and pinion in dodge caravan 2003

Wheel alignment requires instruments , special tools and knowledge on how to operate an alignment rack. Get it done at a shop that does wheel alignments. You simply cannot do it yourself.

Replace front pinion

Are you referring to the rack and pinion steering assembly? If so, repairing or rebuilding this unit requires very specialized tools. Even auto repair shops do not fix these. We simply remove the defective unit and replace it with another good complete unit.
If you are asking how to replace this unit, that also requires special tools to remove the tie rods. You must also be very careful and know what you are doing or you can ruin the clock spring for the driver's side airbag. The shaft for the steering column is "phased" to the shaft on the pinion gear. You must be sure to keep the steering column and the new rack & pinion assembly in phase or you can do more damage to your truck. You will also need to take the truck to a shop for a front end alignment after you are done. If you think that you have the skills to handle this job, I would suggest you watch the videos I've linked. FYI, it will take a skilled mechanic with all the proper tools over 4 hours to do this job.

Leaking power steering fluid 1997 dodge dakota

Is this a gear box (used on 4X4's) or a rack and pinion? In any event the shaft seals do develop leaks, the best thing to do is just install a rebuilt unit, install a good quality rebuilt steering unit either from the dealer or from a company called A1Cardone. Trying to rebuilt the old one will likely only fix the problem short term and requires special tools.
Could you please rate my help for Fixya, it is all I ask for my time and effort. Thanks

What kind of power steering is in a 2000 dodge Durango? and does it have a gearbox?

Starting with the 2000 model year, Dodge Durango's had what is called rack and pinion steering. It does not have a gear box.

The Chrysler racks are leak prone as well as known for having issues. What type of problem are you having?'

Rack and pinion or steering kit

your vehicle has a transverse mounted engine and most newer vehicls have rack and pinion steering versus a shaft going to a gear box with a drag link and sway bar type steering system. most full size suvs have the gear box set up. some suvs like dodge durango have both a gear box and a rack and pinion. your vehicle has only the rack and pinion

Can you replace the pinion bearing with out taking rear end apart will it come out the front or do you have to pull the axles on a 2001 dodge 2500 4x4 360 gas

You must remove the ring gear and pinion gear to replace the bearings, it is a big job and requires special tools like bearing race drivers and a hydraulic press
