No number under windshield. The metal plate by the door lists the following: -Model # U-LH85-MDL -Frame/Chassis # LH85-0010346 -Color 048 -Trim PA82 -Engine # 2L -Axel # R351F G802 -Plant # A11 The problem is that my insurance company want to know the 17-digit VIN. none of these numbers are 17 digits, and I can't figure out if any combination of them will work and how to arrange it.
The VIN should be on that metal plate aswell , but if not check the tag on the rear end housing one should be the gear ratio and serial number and the other should contain the VIN failing that ypu can always check the Chassis and engine block . In some vehicles the vin will also be on the seat belts or printed in the wheel well for the spare tire. Youy can also check the firewall in the engine compartment. Good Luck

When you say 'chassis number' do you mean an identification code for the 'body'? If so, here's a quote from a manual (2003 Wrangler) :
BODY CODE PLATE
A metal body code plate is attached to the floor pan
under the drivers seat. Disengage the snaps
attaching the carpet to the floor pan to read the
information. There are seven lines of information on
the body code plate. Lines 4, 5, 6, and 7 are not used
to define service information. Information reads from
left to right, starting with line 3 in the center of the
plate to line 1 at the bottom of the plate...

YES, THE VIN NUMBER IS NEAR THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD ON THE DRIVERS' SIDE. IT CAN BE SEEN FROM THE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR. ANOTHER LOCATION IS ON THE DRIVERS' DOOR BY THE DOOR CATCH OR STRIKE PLATE. OK NOW FOR THE ENGINE NUMBER, LOOK UNDER THE HOOD FOR A WHITE STICKER. ON THIS STICKER TOWARDS THE BOTTOM IS THE ENGINE INFORMATION. GOOD LUCK

The vin number should be located on the driverside at the bottom of the windshield. Looking from the outside of the car on the driverside you should see it through the windshield. Hope this will help you.
