There should be a section in the owners manual to tell you how. Most Chevrolet have a release lever under the dash right above the e brake pedal.

SOURCE: parking brake pedal goes to floor

Hello;
The parking brake cables may be stretched and in need of adjustment. Follow the cables along to a nut. Then you can tighten the adjusters up on both sides until you have the proper tension. Also make certain none of the brackets are bent or broken that the cables ride through.
Thanks;

SOURCE: chevy malibu the car won't come out of park when

On most or possibly all newer vehicles you have to depress the brake pedal before shifting into drive or any other gear for that matter. There is a switch under the dash and connected to the brake pedal lever that sends a signal to the shifter to release and allow it to move into drive. It may even be incorporated with the brake light activation switch as well. You should be able to look at it and see if anything obious may be the culprit such as a lose or broken wire. Good luck!

SOURCE: parking brake cable snapped but brake is on. any

Under the dash, where the break release handle is, you'll see a lever where the release cable is/was attached to. Either push forward, or pull back this lever and it will release the parking break. BE CAREFUL the foot peddle for the parking break doesn't hit you in the face!

My parking brake broke and the light will not shut off on my dash and my car keeps beeping

There is a sensor or switch on the Park brake assembly that tells the ECU, (the cars brain), if the park brake is on or off. Your vehicle is assuming the brake is on and is warning you with the light and the beep. The simplest way to shut it up is to repair the park brake.

How can I tell if my emergency brake is damaged on my rear caliper on a 2005 Chevy Malibu maxx

Remove the wheel and have someone depress the e-brake while observing cable operation. The cable should pull the brake arm on the caliper and release the arm when the e-brake pedal is released.

How do you adjust the parking brake on a malibu maxx? I suspect it may be dragging. I stopped the car without the brakes and the right rear disc was very hot. None of the others were. The parking brake...

Most parking brakes are adjusted by accessing the cable under the vehicle -- there should be some bolts which will require two wrenches to turn -- there will be an adjustment for each wheel.

The cable going to that wheel may be sticking where it goes into the wheel assembly.

Lubricating all components of the emergency brakes system (which you can access) would be agood idea -- inside and outside vehicle.
