SOURCE: parking brake pedal goes to floor
Hello;
The parking brake cables may be stretched and in need of adjustment. Follow the cables along to a nut. Then you can tighten the adjusters up on both sides until you have the proper tension. Also make certain none of the brackets are bent or broken that the cables ride through.
Thanks;

On most or possibly all newer vehicles you have to depress the brake pedal before shifting into drive or any other gear for that matter. There is a switch under the dash and connected to the brake pedal lever that sends a signal to the shifter to release and allow it to move into drive. It may even be incorporated with the brake light activation switch as well. You should be able to look at it and see if anything obious may be the culprit such as a lose or broken wire. Good luck!

Under the dash, where the break release handle is, you'll see a lever where the release cable is/was attached to. Either push forward, or pull back this lever and it will release the parking break. BE CAREFUL the foot peddle for the parking break doesn't hit you in the face!
Mine broke on the 2nd of this month as well....
