Could be a short in the wiring for the O2 sensor.   I currently have the same issue only my car finally threw a code after two days of it acting up.  Code 106.  Changed the MAP sensor and it now throws 108, MAP sensor high voltage circuit.  Ah the joys of cold weather and broke down vehicles.  But I know that you wont always get a code with a short.  Let me know if you fixed the problem.

SOURCE: 1990 Jaguar XJ40 3.6, where is the fuel filter located?

Hi,
The fuel filter is located under the car, in front and in a little, from the L/H rear wheel.

Undo the 2 nut connections, and fixing clamp, and its off.

Remember no smoking !

Good luck !

A FixYa rating would be nice... Thanks !

John.

SOURCE: Hard start when cold, running rich, poor fuel economy

Chrysler has a bulletin out for a simular condititon that involves replacing the pcm. Heres the bulletin number 18-005-04. This is only 1 possible cause , Fuel pressure, coolant temp sensor, thottle position sensor all can cause like problems. Seeing sensor values and fuel adaptives with a scan tool helps pin point problems.

SOURCE: 1998 chvy 1500 loses power

check the intake gaskets. in the middle front and middle rear. If they are oily, it more than likely sucked part of the gasket in. When it warms up the leak gets bigger. The easy way to check is to get some carb cleaner and spray all around the intake while idling and warm. DO NOT SPRAY ANY EXHAUST PARTS , carb cleaner is combustible. The truck should stumble or even shut off when spraying with the carb cleaner if there is a leak.

02 f150 5.4 runs ruff after it warms up

Check the throttle plate for varnish or carbon build up , clean with throttle plate cleaner . Have engine sensors scanned with a scan tool ,mass air flow sensor may be dirty . I'd tell you to check fuel trims with scan tool but you are probably not familiar with these . They show how much fuel the engine computer is adding or subtracting . Great diagnostic tool for trouble shooting engine running problems . Also a scan tool is great to check O2 sensor switching rich to lean an back to rich signal . The engine runs in open loop when cold which means the PCM doesn't look at O2 sensor data till warmed up . PCM/ECM adds more fuel till warmed . Then it will go into closed loop fuel control , the PCM/ECM watches O2 sensors . May have a vacuum leak ,check with can spray carburetor cleaner ,spray around the intake manifold an listen for the engine RPM to pick up or may even stall the engine. My 2005 Ford Taurus is giving code 2195 and 2197, what can be the problem?

Both codes are O2 Sensors--lean, trying to correct
for over rich condition

I show 27 possible causes for that

If the fuel pressure is okey ,and you have no
vacuum leaks,maybe the sensors failed

The front 2 closest to the engine, are to be
replaced at 100,000 miles

Got a 1993 4.0 xj40 sovereign (xj6) with an intermittent Cruise control. Works perfectly till engine temp reaches normal then ceases to operate. Have replaced Speed control module and vacuum pump unit...

check if your car has a speed sensor located in the diff rear cover if so from memory early face lift xj40 models used that sensor for the cruise only signal . the speedo signal came from the abs circuit. does the speedo fail at the same time? the sensor in the diff used to change spec when the oil increased in temp whatever sounds like the speed signal is at fault, blue wire i think at the seed control module good luck

I have a 1990 Jaguar Sovereign, 98,000 miles. The problem I'm having is the engine starts and runs, but it lopes at idle and runs rough, seems to be running too rich. I was getting fault codes 44, 37,...

I would change the air filter and clean the fine mesh covering the air flow control unit.
Make sure the connections are good as the sensor screen is tied to the O2 sensor. A new O2 sensor and dirty screen would give you poor fuel burning as the air fuel mix would be bad, and the O2 sensor would read the need for more fuel.......poor economy and running rough as it would not be clean burning.
