intake gaskets are know to go bad on this vehicle. Or may be the I.A.C (idle air control) could be bad as well. good luck

Take it to a repair shop & pick up a mechanic,
to ride along with you, as you duplicate the problem

Take the belt off, and see if that pulley wheel spins freely, If it is seized up, that is where the burning smell came from-belt was running across the seized pulley. If that wheel pulley runs the water pump, you will need to replace it.

The 1999 Isuzu Rodeo does not come with a fuel Inertia cut off switch. In case of an accident, the oil pressure switch comes into play i.e. if the engine shuts off and starts leaking oil. The oil pressure switch also cuts off the fuel pump power.

Check your engine *******

Check the fuel pressure it could be the fuel pump or pressure regulator.

i suggest you get the code out of the vehicles diagnostic system it could shed some light on why vehicle cuts out.
does vehicle start straight away?
things like a relay, crank sensor, wiring loom or connector problem or more expensive things like engine ECU could be at fault.
i have seen all these but the most common for V6 engines is the engine harness wiring loom breaking and bad earth crimp on LH head to guard area.

This is the 'Check Engine' warning light. This normally comes on when there are sensors (usually the engine knock sensor) that are faulty or indicate some type of engine trouble.

Have this diagnosed by a qualified technician immediately.

There are 3 major issues with the V6 Rodeo. The intake manifold gaskets leak. The drive by wire sensor on the gas pedal goes bad and makes it stall or run at just idle (light will come on). And your problem is the wiring harness to the motor. Get under while it is running (best to do on lift) grab the harness and shake it and pull it. Engine will probably die. Sometimes taking plug apart and using electrical contact cleaner on it will work, sometimes a stick of dynamite will cure all the issues with these. My son was almost killed three times in his 2001.
