Some compressors do and some do not. Take out the drain plug and drain the oil into a clean container then replace with the correct amount. Remember to drain the old compressor to see how much oil is left in the system

there is no drain plug so i drain out where the AC lines go, about 1/2-ounce came out of the new compressor but nothing came out of the old compressor. do i have to put oil in it before i replace the new compressor? what kind of oil do i put into it?

  • Kardoc Mar 19, 2019

slowly add it through the low side port while rotating the compressor.

Put the oil you took out of it back in. If it is easier to do before do it before. It does not matter. Some compressors mount with the lines on the side. This would be more difficult to add oil.

the lines on this compressor is mount on the top do it make any differant which hole i put it back in where the lines go? just 1/2 ounce of oil came out i havn't turn the clutch with my hand yet do i turn the cluth when taking the oil out or putting it back in?

Like I posted before, slowly add it to the low side hose opening. If it fill up, rotate the compressor hub.

SOURCE: ac compressor oil

First off is your compressor pre-lubed? to find out, remove shipping caps from ports and tip to side and see if any oil comes out. As a rule of thumb, The oil is sold in a small bottle pre measured for the entire system. 1/4 bottle per item (compressor, evaporator, condenser, and filter/dryer) The label showing cc's will do fine for your oil needs as the system will find its own level once activated. Oil continuously flows througout system. Need I remind you that when replacing compressor you should also replace filter/dryer so you do not repeat this job in two months.

in order to pull your bracket you have to pull the compressor of first, there are two bolts up front and one or two in the rear, those will have to be removed first

SOURCE: AC compressor

doesnt mean system is empty, because no oil came out off compressor, unless the system was flush and should be flushed with cleaner, then the system would hold 10oz, of oil, also make sure to spin compressor by hand 10 times to get the oil and liqiud out of cylinders, add a couple ozes of oil in dryer then compressor and the evaporator core to equal 10oz of oil, after added oil to compressor stand on pulley to coat seal let sit for 10min, then after all line are connected then you spin 10 turns, hope this help,

Where do you add oil after replacing AC evaporator for Saab 2001 9.3?

there most likely is no need to replace the oil as oil travels with the gas
it is normally put in through the compressor but the amount is critical as excessive oil will block the TX valve
now that you have replaced the evaporator, take it to an auto ac specialist shop , have the system evacuated right down , any oil required to be added and the correct amount of gas to be installed

When we turn on A.C or defrosters alternator makes noise and vibrates engine drops

are you sure it's the alternator and not the AC compressor?

makes more sense if it's the compressor putting excess load when you turn on the AC system

maybe add a small can of oil via low side port w/ that r134a adaptor to see if the compressor is low on oil; that can be bought at walmart or any auto parts store

but really has to be evacuated and checked if correct oil level inside the system, which costs $$$

There is no need to add oil to an ac compressor unless you have had a massive leak. new compressors come with the right amount of oil. The compressor oil circulates with the gas and by the time the gas pressure drops from a leak then the amount of oil leaked out is just a few drops. Excessive oil in the system stops the TX valve from working and causes problems . If still in doubt then talk to an accredited ac specialist

the best suggestion is to give up on replacing compressor clutches and have the system done by an accredited ac specialist shop
excessive pressure from excessive gas is hydraulicing the compressor and making the clutch slip burning it out
next flushing the system removes all of the compressor oil in the system leaving the compressor running virtually dry
next when a system is opened , moisture laden air gets in and that has to be vacuumed out for a period of 2 hours minimum or the water in the air turns to ice and blocks the tx valve
freon gas ( if that the gas that is supposed to be used as many now run r134a) is inserted ,not by the can but by the low pressure and high pressure readings on a manifold gauge designed for that purpose
I would say that by now you would have spent more money than what it would have cost you at the ac specialist shop

My 1997 cadillac refrigerant , i got r 134 coolant that it said to buy and the compressor want come on to charge on the gage its almost to the red (warning) level do i keep putting in till it gets enough...

NOPE STOP CHARGING DONT PUT NO MORE REFRIGERANT IN SYSTEM.DO GOING TO DAMAGE NEW COMPRESSOR AND THE EXCESS PRESSURE WILL BUILD UP CAUSE THE REFRIGERANT CANISTER TO BURST EXPLODE INJURY OR FATALLY HURT YOU. BEST TAKE CAR TO A GARAGE.LET GARAGE PUMP DOWN AC SYSTEM AND CHARGE UP.BECAUSE YOU WILL DAMAGE NEW COMPRESSOR. MOST OF TIME I WILL HOT WIRE THE AC COMPRESSOR. MAKE SURE COMPRESSOR HAS 2 OUNCES OIL IN IT.IF COMPRESSOR START UP NO OIL IT WILL LOCK UP.DONT KEEP PUTTING REFRIGERANT IN THE AC SYSTEM, THE R 134A GOING TO FREEZE UP TOO MUCH MOISTURE IN SYSTEM YOU HAVE TO HAVE A VACUUM PUMP TO PUMP DOWN AC SYSTEM CHECK FOR LEAKS BEFORE CHARGING SYSTEM UP.LOW SIDE NEED TO BE 31 - 36 PSI THE HIGH SIDE SHOULD BE 165 - 205 PSI.

How do you replace an air compressor in a 99 olds alero

TAKE CAR TO GARAGE OR DEALERSHIP.THEY HAVE TO DISCHARGE AND RECOVER THE REFRIGERANT FROM CAR STORING IT IN STORAGE RECOVER UNIT.AGAINST THE LAW TO LET OUT REFRIGERANT IN THE ATOMOSHERE CAUSING OZONE DAMAGE.WHEN REFRIGERANT IS REMOVED THIS WILL BE THE CHEAPEST WAY.FIRST GO TO AUTO PARTS STORE BUY A PACK OF O - RINGS FOR AIRCONDITIONERS SYSTEM.THEY SHOULD BE GREEN COLOR NOT BLACK ONES.THEY ARE THE UNIVERSAL O -RINGS NOT MADE FOR AIR CONDITION SYSTEM.THE REFRIGERANT WILL DESTROY AND CAUSE LEAKS.WHEN YOU BUY O - RINGS.BUY NEW ACCUMULATOR THE OLD ONE FULL OF MOISTURE.YOU NEED TO REPLACE THE EXPANSION TUBE OR ORIFICE TUBE.IT IS LOCATED AT CONDENSOR LOWER LINE FITTING.BUY 1 BOTTLE OF R- 134 REFRIGERANT OIL. THEN BUY NEW COMPRESSOR.WHEN REMOVING OLD COMPRESSOR POUR THE OIL OUT OF IT.MEASURE HOW MUCH OIL IN COMPRESSOR.OKAY TO REMOVE AC COMPRESSOR FIRST REMOVE DRIVE BELT.THEN SAFELY RAISE SUPPORT VECHICLE ON JACK STANDS ON LEVEL SOLID GROUND REMOVE WHEEL AND SPLASH SHIELD ON PASSENGER SIDE.DISCONNECT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR FROM COMPRESSOR AND REMOVE COMPRESSOR REFRIGERANT LINES.THEN REMOVE COMPRESSOR MOUNTING BOLTS 2 BOLTS AT TOP 1 OR 2 BOLTS ON BOTTOM OF COMPRESSOR.WHEN REMOVING OLD COMPRESSOR.SEE HOW MUCH OIL COMES OUT.SHOULD BE A OUNCE OR TWO.GM COMPRESSOR HOLDS 10 TO 8 OUNCES.BUT WE DONT KNOW HOW MUCH IN SYSTEM.WHEN YOU BUY NEW COMPRESSOR.MEASURE HOW MUCH SHIPPING OIL IT HAS BY POURING IT OUT.TO BE ON SAFE SIDE I WOULD POUR 2 OUNCE REFRIGERANT OIL IN COMPRESSOR. POUR 1 OUNCE OIL IN ACCUMULATOR.REPLACE ALL THE O -RINGS AT THE COMPRESSOR AND ACCUMULATOR AND THE LOWER CONDENSORS LINES WHEN REPLACING THE ORIFICE TUBE.USE NEEDLE NOSE PLIERS TO REMOVE THE ORIFICE TUBE.BESURE TO PLACE THE LONG SCREEN ON THE INSIDE.BESURE TO LUBRICATE ALL O - RINGS WITH REFRIGERANT OIL.WHEN YOU PUT EVERYTHING BACK TOGETHER.DONT OVER TIGHTEN THE REFRIGERANT LINES WHICH WILL CUT THE O - RINGS CAUSE LEAKING. TAKE CAR TO A GARAGE THAT DOES AC WORK.LET THEM PUMP DOWN THE SYSTEM AND LEAK TEST THEN CHARGE AC SYSTEM UP.THIS WILL SAVE YOU MONEY BECAUSE IF YOU BUY A VACUUM PUMP THATS ABOUT $400.00 AND MANIFOLD GAUGE SET A GOOD SET RANGE FROM $100.00 TO $300.00 DOLLARS.SEE YOUR AC COMPRESSOR $270.00 TO OVER $300.00 THAT ADDS UP.HOPE MOST THIS INFORMATION WILL HELP YOU. IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS THE HAYNES REPAIR MANUAL CAN ALSO HELP YOU IT HAS PHOTOS AND INFORMATION HOW TO REMOVE AC COMPRESSOR.
