The transmission is probably in limp-in mode, and should have an associated check engine light code/DTC. Something like that can be based on sensor issues or an actual problem inside the transmission.

SOURCE: 1995 cadilac deville has problem shifting from 1 to 2 gear

You don't have torque converter shudder. You don't even mention that in your original post! You def had a solenoid issue. My 94 STS did the same thing. I only had reverse, 1st and 2nd gear. Wouldn't shift outa 2nd period. It was a $200 solenoid repair. Car had a 160K on it when that happened. I have almost 170k on it now. Shifts and works fine. you don't need the tranny replaces ad josavv63 indicates.

2000 Jeep Cherokee Laredo P0455 & P0765 limp mode and dies driving!

4.7L jeep
the p07 code is tranny error.
cutting off all power means , power to rear wheels or DC battery power to some things ,electrical things die?)
on all cars, DC power must be good first or the computers fail or go mad.
P0455 is gas cap loose, ignore it until all else is cured.
unless cap is missing sure.
Shift Solenoid "D" Malfunction. 0755

fix DC power distribution problems first.
bad grounds, bad connectors, alternator weak or dead
fuses blown or loose
loose wire lugs, or connectors.
rusty ground lugs wires.

title ,DIES Driving.
so dies means engine stalls. not tranny slip right.?
if is stalling can you save the stall before it completes the stall
by fast right foot actions
when it stalls tell the helper all other electrical things that die at the event. Radio dead, head lamps and parking lamps dead.
heater or AC cool blower dead?

Seems to me a pure electrical failure so far.

Jeep Cherokee 2.8 crd outo box does not engage. It disengaged while driving, now no gears available

is this a transmission problem. this non USA car.
if yes, which one you got.? a/t or m/t and which one.

what year car.
crd diesel.
the cherokee ended here in 2001
but the Lliberty is sold outside USA as a "Cherokee' odd as that is.
and with the CRD (of some type)

no gears, smackes of stick shift. after all A/T never shift gears
they use clutches totally, (but have plenary gear sets)
"NO gears ," does hat mean its stuck in neutral or the wrong gear.
if in neutral the foot clutch slave is leaking, lost all clutch fluid from the filler?
if the gear shift fails to shift, that is another matter, are all gears dead ? and stuck in netural?

What would stop a transmission from shifting ?

On a newer car this is a mode the transmission goes into when there is a bad problem with the transmission. It will usually go into 2nd gear where you can drive it safely to get it checked out but will not shift into any other forward gears.
