SOURCE: Do I change water pump when having timing belt changed

I would go to auto zone and get a diagram and the timing belt and do it yourself and the water pump (no it does not have to be changed everytime the timing belt is changed but if the car has over 60,000miles then it is best to change them both) it is not that hard especially if the car is not out of time just make sure you disconnect the negative side of the battery

did you know how to replace timing belt it has to be installed in a specified way or it wont start
if it broke and you replaced it then the story is different as if it breaks while running usually it also bends your valves you should see a technician for this

What is included in a timing belt kit?

The Subaru timing belt kit consists of a water pump with gasket, timing belt tensioner assembly, right timing belt idler, left lower timing belt idler, cogged timing belt idler, two accessory drive belts, front crankshaft seal, two front camshaft seal kits, thermostat gasket. That about covers it up. Hope this helped!

I have a 1998 Subaru impreza outback with 54K miles. When should I change the timing belt and all associated parts (water pump etc.)?

Every 60,000 to 80,000 miles depending on your manufacturers reccomendations. The water pump is not normally changed untill you have a problem with it.

Does a 2003 subaru impreza have a chain or belt timing belt? what is the maintenance schedule?

It has a belt, and it is supposed to be done at 60,000 miles. It is a job but it can be done by a patient owner. You can't rush it, you will need the book, a Haynes manual or something like that. the shop will charge about 3 to $400 for it. I think the water pump gets done and the belt tensioner, not sure. Check it out, Hope this helps.

I just got an estimate for $575 (+$50 parts) for

why are they changing that. If you are losing antifreeze, it should be the water pump they are changing. If it is the water pump, have the them change the timing belt if it has one(they are in there anyway). If it has a timing CHAIN, IT DOESNT need to be changed, ever. Dont be fooled by a dealer. Ask to see the bad parts. A water pump is circular shaped and looks like it has fins. A timing belt a just a long belt, like a fan belt. Hope this helps!
