2004 Chevy Malibu Maxx - Power Steering Message

I got a message on my dashboard saying power steering. I'm really not sure what that is and not sure if this is something major. Any help or feedback would be appreciated. Thank you guys!!

This can be VERY expensive I would first contact GM customer assitance the phone number should be in your owners manual.Maybe depending on your milage they will split the cost with you.I worked 20 plus years for GM and they helped alot my customers.

SOURCE: replace power steering pulley on 200 chevy malibu

GM power steering pump pulleys are a pressed on type with an"interference" fit-the hole is .001" smaller than the shaft.You need a puller/installer tool.I bought one for about 30 bucks at NAPA,you might be able to rent one at an auto parts store.The tool clamps the pulley nose and has a screw to push the shaft out.(some Chrysler alternators use the same design).

It has electric power steering and there is a fault with it. The ECM recognises this and won't left you drive it.

There was a recall on it.

Only 2006-2007 Chevrolet Malibu, Malibu Maxx, and Pontiac G6 models built between April and June 2006 are included in this recall. Power steering fluid?

The power steering on your 2005 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx has electronic power-assist and not hydraulic power-assist so there is no hydraulic fluid. If you're not already aware, this vehicle is part of a major recall from General Motors for power steering failure. Contact your local Chevrolet dealership for more information. You will need your vehicles VIN as shown on your registration or dash plaque. Hope this helps.

The manual to my 2004 Malibu Maxx was stolen and I don't know where the power steering fluid goes. It is not marked when I look under the hood.
